I really enjoyed visiting Stone Town and the spice farms.

I really enjoyed visiting Stone Town and the spice farms. I mostly ate at my hotel, and at night I went to Forodhani, where the seafood was amazing. Although most of my time was spent in meetings, I managed to take a few walks, and I found it quite easy to get around using taxis or simply walking through the main areas. For anyone staying near town, great activities in Zanzibar include exploring Stone Town, taking a spice tour, relaxing at the beach, and joining a group boat trip

    Wonderful city.

Wonderful city. Recommend Stone Town for first time visitors. Vibrant with tightly-packed activity: people selling tourist items from small shops. Negotiate for everything. Loved the food/vibes at Secret Garden restaurant. Prepare to wake at dawn, the first of 5 daily calls to prayer from mosques. Stone Town is not clean. Garbage and feral cats are everywhere (sadly they contribute to the decimation of birds which is why you really only see the House Crow anywhere on the island.) Definitely visit the Slave Museum, $5, and Prison Island (recommend a tour as you need a small boat to get there.) As a solo woman traveling, I recommend a good sense of humor and talk to people- they’re friendly and helpful but shop owners can be assertive. I hired a guide for 3 days. Best decision! About $300 all in. Walk to Forodhani Beach at sunset-lovely. A great adventure. Visit Prison Island and the slave museum.

It’s great, wonderful shopping and cool spots to visit.

It’s great, wonderful shopping and cool spots to visit. However, the pressure from the Taxi drivers as well as the Beach boys is pretty annoying and intimidating. You just have to develop your methods of saying no politely, but they are very persistent. They will try and drag you into a conversation in the hopes that they can get you to buy something and it’s really exhausting. They’ll ask you where you’re from what is your name, where you going where your staying… questions that no reasonable single woman would ever answer to a man in a foreign country …Most kind and polite people have a hard time ignoring that…. And I guess that’s the point of why they ask you those question. Nonetheless it’s my least favourite part of visiting here . It gets really old after a while. In many cases, they will follow you and continue to try to talk to you when you’ve said no like five times. I had to in many cases tell them to stop following me. It’s a bit intimidating as a single woman traveller…you think they’d know better than that but I do get it …they’re all just scrambling to make a buck. All that said, take a dalla dalla from Darjani market(or all over the island for that matter) #505 airport …a great local experience. 500 shillings(20 cents) to get from the airport to Stone Town in 15 mins…super easy. The taxis charge 25-30USD!

If you're looking for a beach holiday, I really wouldn't...

If you're looking for a beach holiday, I really wouldn't recommend Zanzibar, there are better destinations like Seychelles, Mauritius etc. People keep trying to annoy you, they will try to "escort" you and ask you for money, you won't get any lone time on the beach.

    Zanzibar is a beautiful island.

Zanzibar is a beautiful island. I have never seen water so blue! We ate at the Rock restaurant which was amazing. We took a Spice tour, tour to Prison Island, Blue Atoll, Salami Cave and to see the Red Columbus monkeys. I would recommend all of the tours. The people are friendly and helpful. There are cats everywhere! Locals seem to take good care of them and put out food for them. There is even a cat cross walk sign.

We did a city tour, and it was informative.

We did a city tour, and it was informative. The unpaved streets, and all the dust and dirt was a problem with our sinuses. The people was friendly, and we understand they have to be a little pushy in order to make a living.

We stayed at the hotel after our flight from France as we felt it was useless to drive one hour to our holiday destination late in the evening. The hotel is located two minutes drive away from the airport. Staff was very welcoming and pleasant, room comfortable with a very nice bed, great bathroom with italien walk in shower, nice terrasse and pool area. A great hotel for a night after or before your flight or if you want a modern hotel in Zanzibar city with easy access to Stone town. Very good value for money.

The location is amazing, right on the beach, so great for people-watching. The hotel is big, but not too big so it feels very cozy! The staff were incredibly nice, everyone from the concierge to the room service, to the guards, to the waiters - everyone! The pool is lovely, but my absolute favorite was the 200-year-old mango tree. If you don't stay here, at least come for drinks and a look at this beautiful tree!

Staff was very kind and helpful and the hotel is located at beautiful spot, with great view and very peaceful. We even when down to the small beach strip to swim. There's some rubbish on the beach sadly, but we found a clear spot. Breakfast was also very good.
