The caverns are a must see! So amazing and large.

The caverns are a must see! So amazing and large. Plus the Guadalupe Mountain National Park in Texas is just a short drive away, too. The biggest surprise was the Living Desert State Park! It was a wonderful botanic garden and zoo. Even in the heat, it was fantastic! The food was okay - nothing awful, nothing fabulous. The people? They were awesome, so friendly and helpful!

I have so may happy memories of summer trips to Carlsbad Caverns, White's City and Rattlesnake Springs throughout my childhood and while a lot has changed it was so much fun taking my husband there to share with him. There is also a great Asian buffet called China Dragon Buffet; HIGHLY recommend! While Carlsbad NM is a small town it has all the amenities and the folks there are truly great!

The city is primarily an oilfield town, with some corporate chains for restaurants. We went into town into what appeared to be a Barrio neighborhood, and had some of the best food I've ever experienced. Roque Burritos is HIGHLY recommended!

Carlsbad as a city is good.

Carlsbad as a city is good. We stayed here for the night after going to the Caverns. Not much to do but we were tired so it didn't matter. We tried to go out and walk around but after the 7th person begging us for money we decided to take our 3 daughters back to the hotel. Won't be returning anytime soon.

We went to Carlsbad solely to go to the Carlsbad Caverns.

We went to Carlsbad solely to go to the Carlsbad Caverns. That meant we did not really do anything in town except to eat and get gas. It only takes about an half-hour from the town to arrive at the Carlsbad Caverns visitor's center, so it was convenient. The restaurant we ate at was the Yellow Brick and we found the staff to be very friendly (even on a very busy Saturday) and the food was very good. And reasonably priced.

Of course you have the caverns.

Of course you have the caverns. I was limited to just a one night stay due to scheduling conflicts. But, interesting things in the area: Living Desert Zoo/state park Carlsbad Lake (great for the kids) Sitting Bull Falls (great for the kids) Carlsbad Caverns Park Ranch Caverns for the adventurous (must be certain there will not be any rain or you could die underground. Must be comfortable with cave navigation. Guadalupe Mountains National Park Brantley Lake State Park Trinity Hotel is said to be haunted. My Daddy's Barbecue has wonderful barbecue during the week. Some oil crews from Louisiana told me that their Thursday jambalaya is excellent. You know the jambalaya is good when folks from Louisiana are raving about it.

The hotel looked quite new and our room felt luxurious with tasteful furniture. The front desk staff was very friendly and hospitable and gave us detailed information about the hotel facilities, such as washing machines and fitness. Breakfast is good and we especially liked the Swiss Miss hot chocolate. The hotel is at walking distance from the historic Pecos River irrigaton canal, built over 100 years ago.

This is a wonderful classic hotel. For those who remember the large super Holiday Inn hotels this like a walk down memory lane. Brought back a lot of good memories from my childhood days.
