The birthplace of American independence, Philadelphia was founded in 1682 by William Penn. The name of the city translates to City of Brotherly Love and the city itself is a vibrant mix of history, art and culture.

Lots of history to see and explore. The old part of the city is of more interest (too us). There is also a good art museum and a visit to the old penitentiary is also worthwhile. Finding good food options at reasonable prices was a bit challenging but ok if you just want fast food. Reading Terminal Market has a few good options to choose from but can get very busy. The city feels generally safe to walk around and is very culturally diverse and tolerant. But like in all big cities, you have to be careful where you go and be on your guard. We hired bikes and cycled around the city centre using the ample bike lanes and river side tracks, a lovely way to see the sights. The weather in September was perfect.
