Set in a 1930s historical building, Grande Hotel Petrópolis is just 50 metres from the Imperial Museum in Petropolis. This is a beautiful hotel with a rich history! The lady who checked us in late in the evening was incredibly friendly, helpful, and spoke perfect English, which is quite rare in Brazil. The rest of the staff was equally professional and kind throughout our stay. The room was very spacious—no view, but super comfy. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable. The room was clean, and the air conditioning worked quickly. However, the only downside was that the hot water in the shower took forever to flow. Breakfast was delicious, though it could have offered more vegetarian options. Overall, it was a fantastic experience right in the heart of the city!

Adriana was super helpful before we arrived as I had a small issue with my credit card, and on the day of our early arrival Stefen looked after us well with recommendations of local places to visit and restaurants which we followed. Local area of shops and bars is vibrant and fun and a nice contrast to the Rio beach scene. We were able to enjoy breakfast and leave our bags before checking in later in the day. The hotel is really very charming, calm and with a stunning overlook of the city. There were only the two of us but we booked the duplex which has room for three people, and I would recommend as the upper level is a nice seperate space to enjoy. The breakfast is great and in a bright, spacious dining room with period furniture. Can't recommend highly enough and it was a shame we only stayed a coule of nights. Thank you!

This was my first stop on my travel around the lakes region, and I really appreciated having a hostel where I could rest, recharge, and prepare for the rest of my travel. The location is also good for a first stop because it is close to the beach, the lake, and Ilha Japonesa.
