We recently spent a few days at this beautiful, family-run guesthouse in the Douro Valley and it was everything we had hoped for – a real escape from the city to the quiet, peaceful countryside. Surrounded by stunning views and gorgeous pools, it was the perfect spot to unwind. There’s not much to do in the evenings other than head into the nearby town for dinner, which suited us perfectly – we were after some proper downtime. Breakfast was a real highlight each morning – fresh, local, and prepared by the host herself. We stayed in the renovated old building rather than one of the newer, modern units by the infinity pool, and we’re so glad we did. The apartment was absolutely gorgeous – spacious, full of charm and character, with a lovely big bath as the centrepiece and refreshing aircon throughout. It really felt like our own private retreat. The guesthouse itself is separate from the family home and feels more like a self-contained house, complete with a beautifully decorated sitting room, a breakfast room, and a huge terrace where we enjoyed our breakfast each morning. One of the highlights of the stay was the tour of the family vineyard, led by the host’s brother. It was clear he was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about winemaking – a lovely, personal touch that made our stay feel even more special. All in all, a very personal and peaceful experience in the heart of the Douro. We’d happily return.

The **Quinta de Fiães** is a charming farm house located in the heart of the Douro Valley, just 1 km from the village of Vilar de Maçada. Producer of wines, including the prestigious white wine of the Douro, Quinta provides an authentic experience, where rural charm and family hospitality combine with modern comfort. We were so glad my stepdaughter's inlaws recommended this beautiful place! Bruno was a fabulous host of this remodeled family home. Our room was lovely with a balcony on both ends and so tastefully decorated. It was a treat to be served a meal in the gorgeous dining room especially prepared by his mother-in-law. Breakfast was included and was a wonderful buffet in such elegant surroundings. Despite the rain, I walked through the vineyard and snapped photo after photo. Staying here was definitely one of the high points of our three-week vacation.

Accommodation at Morgadio da Calçada is set in former sheds scattered through small patios. They were renovated to provide comfort with parquet floors, satellite TV and wrought-iron beds. Each private bathroom includes free toiletries and a hairdryer. We had a wonderful two-day stay. The place is beautiful and has great charm and an authentic atmosphere. We enjoyed dinner with the local wines and this was a great experience - the owner talked about the wines and production and the pleasant chef about the good food. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We warmly recommend a stay at Morgadio Da Calsada Douro
