This is a great hotel, the staff were some of the friendliest we came across on our travels around Japan! They cleaned our luggage wheels on arrival. We loved the free tea and coffee facility, and the Onsen is so relaxing and beautiful. The room was very nice, would definitely recommend this hotel.

This is a place to go for the incredible meals. The chef is passionate about quality Japanese cuisine. I recommend enjoying a meal there even if you don't stay in the hotel, which is quirky but clean and comfortable. You can also get a very hearty breakfast to start the day with. Wonderful hospitality.

Perfect for a stay in Matsumoto.
I stayed in a dorm and my bed was huge by hostel standards. It was a built from solid wood and had enough room to have a nice Japanese style bed plus room for anything you needed to store. It had wrap around curtains providing lots of privacy. I had quiet roommates and slept well.
The common area was great with a kitchen with a bar and an area to chill in with lots of musical instruments which you could pick uk and play if you wanted. The place was packed with interesting items like an ancient massage chair. It was the focal point of the hostel and encouraged people to sit around and socialize.
It was close to all the attractions in Matsumoto with lots of shops and restaurants nearby.
I had a great time here and would come again if I'm ever back in Matsumoto.
Highly recommended.

Wow if you are looking for a luxury Japanese experience, this is it!! Our stay was exceptional from the get go. The traditional welcome was set in an beautiful historic house set apart from the hotel which was rather a surprise for us as we thought we had been taken to the wrong place. We were given champagne and oyaki cakes while the host explained our stay. Then a short walk (or they can shuttle you) up through the beautiful streets of Asama Onsen. The hotel itself is next level! Beds were so comfortable, snacks and cold drinks available 24/7, and the onsen on the deck was just divine. The bookshop/library is absolutely incredible. The breakfast and dinner is included -Not that we didn't like it as was a great experience and fabulously done on an open fire in restaurant - the food is very traditional so come with open mind and give it a go!! Hotel is situated outside of main central city so you do need to taxi to places which didn't bother us as was so worth it. Highly recommend. Was such a highlight of our trip.

Nunoya Ryokan is in a beautiful old japanese house - with a great atmosphere and very friendly staff and a lovely small lounge, in a typical Matsumoto street. We had a beautiful tatami room and slept on futons, it was quiet and comfortable, and breakfast was very good, with choices for lovers of japanese or western breakfast. Loved it.
