The hospitality and care for the wellness of their guests go beyond expectations and anything I have ever experienced in a hotel. From the first moment of walking through the doors and being greeted by May and HeiMi (the cat), I felt the warmness of stepping foot into Bivou-instantly, I was at a place that felt like home. Right when we stepped through the threshold, we were offered homemade bread (that I could still taste even now) and some delicious apple tea. The ayis (aunties) helped move our heavy luggage into the beautiful room, and spent time introducing the activities in the hotel, activities we could do around Lijiang, and different hikes that we could go on. Our room was so COMFORTABLE - high ceilings, spacious bathroom with a rain shower, clean and woodsy interior, and firm beds with warming mats. The welcome package included lotion, lip balm, and the most comprehensive maps of Lijiang, as well as a binder filled with activities to do. The activities weren't your typical "tourist" activities but they were incredibly curated, local gems like biking to Baishi village and going to see the Naxi orchestra (Nomi helped booked for us! Thank you!). The owner of Bivou is so fun and helpful - she gave us a map for Tiger Leaping Gorge and even helped us arrange a hotel on the trail! For a lot of my stay in Lijiang, I was sick (some food poisoning), but the ayis, especially May, kept me alive - not even exaggerating. They went out of their way to cook porridge for me, recommended and brewed red tea for my stomach ache, delivered homemade soup and dumplings up to the room, and changed the bed sheets at midnight for us. The Bivou cafe was the ONLY place I trusted to eat at because I wasn't feeling well. The food is so healthy, fresh, homecooked with love, and absolutely healing. Bivou is not your typical boutique hotel, not the Banyan, nor the Four Seasons.

Such a beautiful hotel. The scenery is amazing from every angle. The restaurants and bakery on site were excellent - we were there to celebrate my daughter's birthday and they were able to arrange a cake with candles at very short notice and even delivered a complimentary cake to our room later in the evening! Breakfast buffet had a great spread of western and Asian foods. The kids enjoyed the petting zoo and animal feeding and complimentary hotel activities such as tie dyeing. Overall, an amazing stay.

Johnson was a very considerate host and made us all feel very comfortable during our stay. Our children loved being with his pet dog and we all enjoyed walking and hiking together (including the dog who came along too). The old town was very close by and had some very comfortable coffee shops and local foods. The attractions in the main city were very enjoyable and our host Johnson offered to take us there in his car at no cost :) We enjoyed a few days hike in the mountains and were guided to the less crowded areas that suited our stay. Thank you Johnson, we really enjoyed our time with you.

    Amy and her family couldn't be more welcoming. They greeted us, introduced us to the local Lijiang tea, helped us book activities, and added us on Wechat so we could contact each other at any time. They made us a delicious breakfast every day with local ingredients and delicacies. Amy even washed our clothes for us. They also gave us excellent local plum wine. Highly recommend and hope we can go back.

    Hailson and Vicky the main two colleague looking after hotel pets were very helpful. One of the highlight of the hotel is the in house pet zoo which my two kids enjoyed every day. Hotel has activities for children can easily not have gone outside. We did spent most of our 3 days in the hotel ground. The only pity is that we all got sick from an afternoon meal in the hotel (not sure what it was, may be it was sandwich with uncooked lettuce).
