The Gateway Hotel

Centrally located in the beautiful market town of Swinford in County Mayo, only 15 minutes drive from Ireland West Airport Knock, the Gateway Hotel is truly the gateway to the West of Ireland, just...

Swinford was somewhat of an afterthought for us -- a quick stop so we could visit a friend -- but The Gateway, as well as the Swinford location, ended up being a very pleasant surprise. This is a small hotel but it has an elevator which is a HUGE bonus for travelers tired of lugging bags up and down stairs in smaller Ireland inns. Rooms are very clean and comfortable. The manager was very responsive and helpful in getting us an iron and ironing board to prepare dress clothes for our night out. Even though hotel parking is on the street, we had no trouble getting a spot. Swinford itself is a nice central location for exploring nearby towns. Breakfast was included the next morning and was decent.

The host is the most hardworking man I've ever met, very polite, cares about his guests, always comes around to make sure his guests are good, always available, gives you all the information, help and support you need. Very focused, organised, hardworking with a smile on his face. You need anything? He's a call away. The hotel has everything to make you feel at home...away from home and that includes a surveillance camera to keep the property secure and make the guests feel safe. The hotel is adjacent to the Bus stop, a stone throw to the train station, and few minutes walk to basic amenities like supermarkets, pharmacy, eatery, you name it. The hotel is perfectly located at the heart of the Town. If you are visiting Ireland, ditch the big cities, start with Ballyhaunis and check into JAMES LYONS B&B, you will thank me later. JAMES LYONS B&B IS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The house was clean, cozy and well located for our work at the festival in Lough Key Forest Park. There's a large Centra a few minutes away and a petrol station round the corner. Elizabeth left us milk, scones, jam, bread, tea and biscuits as she suspected correctly we wouldn't have a chance to get to the shop due to our late arrival - a lovely and thoughtful gesture. The kitchen is great and entirely suitable for cooking your own meals and the house has three bathrooms Communications between us before arrival were clear and fast, and the easy to use lock box made getting the key an effortless process. A lovely house and a thoughtful hostess. What more could you ask for?
