Family hotels and homes in Arita

We are seasoned ryokan customers, and have been to quite a few around Japan, and Shukubo Shingetsu is seriously one of the best. It's relatively new and unknown at this point, but definitely is a hidden gem. There are 3 units available for booking, and we booked one of the two that have two-people capacity. PROS: 1) The whole house has a lovely wood smell (I think it’s Japanese cedar, sugi). 2) All 3 of the units (we've asked to see them all) are beautiful, modern and very very comfortable. They're designed by a famous architecture firm in Tokyo. 3) It's one of a handful of ryokans in Arita, which makes it rare. 4) If you're a huge fan of pottery (which we are), you will LOVE the detials around the house. The umbrella stand, the overhead lamp shades, the vases around the house are all beautiful antique Japanese Aritaware. 5) The food is absolutely INCREDIBLE. The chef (Yasunori-san) is amazing, and that's compared to a lot of other much older and much more established ryokans. Try it, you absolutely have to try his food. He also uses leftover rice from the rice course to make extra riceballs for guests as a midnight snack, which is great. 6) Bed was firm and comfortable! 7) Private onsen in the room was great. 8) Snacks and drinks in the room are 100% free. 9) Netflix in the room! 10) The owners also own a beautiful antique pottery shop, which is also a must-visit. 11) Free parking! 12) The owner of the Ryokan is a lovely lady named Tomoko-san and speaks excellent English, so foreigners would feel very very welcome.

We had great time at Joy House. Host is so helpful and joyful and accommodation is one of best B&B during my Japan trip. View from house is nice and place is very quiet.

Staff were lovely - really accommodating and patient of my bad Japanese. There was a bath and pyjamas. Very comfortable, the AC was easy to use. Even the hotel restaurant was nice, and good value (ideal seeing as there aren't many food options in the area)

The best place for a family vacation! Every thing was just perfect!

The size of the room is big and spacious. There is a kitchen area where there is fridge, microwave, kettle, sink and hob. But to use the hob to cook, you will need to rent the kitchen utensils at a reasonable price of ¥550 for 3 days. The bathroom area is big too as I love the washing machine and dryer. The dryer is very efficient and powerful as it takes less time to dry the clothes as compared to other dryers. Many parking space for this hotel so no worries at all. Very comfortable hotel room and strongly recommended!

A bit of a wild combination, traditional japanese-style rooms in a british-style hotel with Italian kitchen. Works out really well though. The staff is incredibly helpful and attentive. Feels very posh to visit, though i guess for the price you pay that is to be expected. The rentable private rotenburo is great, although mosquitoes can be annoying. The indoor ofuro is great as well, and there is a yukata available in each room.

The house was very spacious and had free parking right in front of the front door. It was very convenient to check in, with every clear instructions from the host. The host was also very responsive and we had no problems communicating via the app. The views from the dining room upstairs was beautiful! We enjoyed watching the sun set from the balcony on the roof. The rooms were also spacious and spotless and had plenty of space for our luggages. The shower was clean and spacious as well. The area had some attractions, like the peacock park. It was a great location to travel to the Sasebo Coast and the Huis Ten Bosch theme park from.
