My favorite stay in Japan across multiple trips and accommodations. Mrs. Tsuzuki and the staff were incredibly heartfelt and genuine, and I have never felt such genuine hospitality in my travels. The accommodation itself is very well furnished, a tasteful blend of traditional japanese and modern renovated convenience. There are no grocery stores or konbinis nearby save for a small self service cup noodle stand across the street, but Mrs. Tsuzuki kindly procured BBQ ingredients and drinks in advance for the whole two days! The inn makes a peaceful homebase if you want to explore Nikko by car, but I would absolutely recommend staying here just to explore the former copper mining city of Ashio where the inn is located. The city has a very interesting, rich industrial history, and is definitely very off the beaten path, if thats your thing. The locals were the friendliest I have encountered in Japan, I was floored by the kindness shown towards me by Mrs. Tsuzuki and everyone else! Note that I speak enough broken japanese to interact with the host and locals, which probably contributed to me having a great time, but I don’t think its a necessity to thoroughly enjoy a stay here.

Situated next to Lake Chuzenji, Hatago Nagomi is renovated in August 2017. The hotel features a restaurant, bar and free WiFi throughout the property. Free private parking is available on site.

Exceptionally great experience during our stay here, to be honest this hotel giving us the best experience from our entire Japan trip 10/10. Great location with lake view and balcony, good onset (not too hot). And the best part is their staffs and our half-board dinner, their dishes are cooked with great, fresh local ingredients with presentation on every menu. All people especially the front (Maybe owner or manager) are superb.

The Ritz-Carlton, Nikko features restaurants, fitness centre, a lobby lounge bar and shared lounge in Nikko situated by Lake Chuzenji and overlooking Mount Nantai.

Perfect food. Very rich buffet as a breakfast (with Japanese and European dishes), very tasty Japanese style dinner. Very comfortable and big onsen with outside bath. The room is also very big and comfortable, with panoramic window, great view to the lake. It's our second visit here, we hope to come again :)

Nikko Tokanso is a 5-minute drive from JR Nikko Station and Tobu Nikko Station. A shuttle service to these 2 stations is provided.

The staff was very friendly and helpful! My parnter cannot eat pork for religious reasons and the staff made sure that his food would not contain it! The room was beautiful and the bathroom had an own bathtub (nice for people who dont want/cant use the onsen) and a massage chair. Everything was very clean and they were happy to help you if you had questions. The dinner experience was so nice and definitiley worth the extra money. My partner said it was his favourite stay from our whole trip. Its also really close to the Sightseeing places. The bus stop is right in front of the hotel and next to the Shinkyo bridge. The short road from the bus station to the hotel was very steep though so a bit difficult with luggage (but it's only a three minute walk and not an issue if you take their shuttle). But I would recommend walking the street up from the station instead of taking the bus or shuttle because there are lots of cute stores on the way!

Lovely ryokan stay, dinner and breakfast were amazing and a true adventure. We loved having dinner in our room and the stay was a perfect start for our Japan trip.

We loved our stay in Nikko. Nikko is the best place in all of Japan and pension L'escale is the best place to stay at. The owners were lovely and very kind. They gave us a lift to the station with our bags and even little good luck souvenirs for our journey. You can tell the place is looked after and the owners are passionate about their business and exploring Nikko. We also borrowed snow shows for our January walk to the marshlands. Hopefully I will get to stay here again!
