The fact that everything was simple but very high quality. We have stayed in both 'fancier' hotels and in places with more stars, but this was so comfortable and hospitable - simple, quality comfort. The staff, excellent English and helpful with everything, including securing us s table at a specific Michelin restaurant we hoped to visit.

We appreciated the nice touch of serving coffee/sake/snacks in the afternoon for the guests. The location was also great, very close to the Nijo Castle in a nice residential neighborhood, but with quite some restaurants around (including the excellent sushi place across the street).
