Located in Udawalawe, within 11 km of Udawalawe National Park, Makulu Safari Camping is an accommodation offering river views. There is an on-site restaurant, plus free private parking and free WiFi are available. The property offers a shuttle service and features a garden and outdoor fireplace. Camping along the river was very appealing. The very strong rains made using the river impossible and it was quite damp for tenting, but that was not the fault of the proprietors. They arranged safari vehicles and guides and gave us very good advice about the length of the safari that would be best for our group.

International and traditional Sri Lankan dishes are served by the chef on demand, at the main restaurant. Athgira River Camping offers a great outdoor dining experience as well as a barbecue dinner and cooking demonstrations. Real wild cocktails and a nice wine selection are available as well. The property is gorgeous and very natural. There are no eye-sores, everything is very blended with nature. The two swimming pools were really lovely and the restaurant buffet dinners were delicious. The best part was the general manager who went above and beyond to make sure we had a great stay. He engaged with our kids and made sure they stayed busy with basketball, volleyball, arranged a village walk across the river, and made special arrangements on our safari to celebrate my son's birthday. He was like a traditional hotel general manager who treats everybody like his personal guest. It's a really special place and definitely a great base for visiting both Udawalawe and Yala parks.

- Pre-dinner drinks around the campfire and wine during dinner This ecolodge was enjoyable for my children, husband and myself. The tents were roomy and had flushing toilets and warm showers. The dinners were elegant on white tablecloth under the stars. The safari guide and driver did an excellent job pointing out elephant herds, birds and crocodiles at this park. I recommend this lodge.
