She also gave us a great list of recommendations of National trust buildings. We visited them all. Yes, Petworth castle is the best.

Australialovely friendly staff and I love the antiquated vibe of the hotel. the views were utterly stunning and it felt very safe. I've read some reviews saying the hotel needs updating and I don't agree at all. I think staying somewhere like this is a nice visit to simpler times, it felt very grand and pleasant and all the staff were really welcoming. I loved it.

The Juliet balcony and French windows that opened out onto the golf course was a real treat and the bed was incredibly comfy too. The bathroom was huge and immaculate, and although it had a bath rather than a shower (which I hadn't realised) it filled very quickly. The bathroom was huge and well stocked with toiletries and fluffy towels. The large wardrobe was well stocked with hangers and there were plenty of drawers. Overhead reading lights was a nice addition to the bedside table lamps. The view out of the double windows is of woodland and the golf course.
