Featuring mountain views and a garden, 馬籠ふるさと学校 Magome Furusato Gakkou offers accommodation attractively situated in Nakatsugawa, within a short distance of Toson Memorial Museum, Magome Wakihonjin Museum and Magome Observatory. The property is around 8.4 km from Otsumago, 10 km from Kotoku-ji Temple and 10 km from Sekibutsu Kanzan Jittoku Statue. The guest house features rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi. What really stands out, is the 5-star service by the receptionists. Actually even better than 5 stars, as there's none of the condescending glances one might get at 5-star hotels. :-D I'm especially grateful for the extra help I got from the bilingual Japanese receptionist. Despite hostel-style accommodation, I slept very well and found the bed to be comfy. The place is easy to reach on foot from Magome-juku bus stop, even with a large suitcase, as there's a pavement all the way.

Effective October 1, 2025, a lodging tax will be introduced by ordinance of Takayama City. In addition to the room charge, 100 yen per person per day will be charged. Please pay in cash or by card upon check-in. Guests under 12 years old are exempt from the lodging tax. Staff were great and friendly! They run a small cafe too so can get some decent coffee anytime. The lounge was ghibli themed and cosy with lots of suggestions for food and activities! Dorm room was as expected, lots of room for luggage.

The units are equipped with air conditioning, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, a fridge, a kettle, a bath, a hair dryer and a dressing room. Featuring a shared bathroom with a shower and free toiletries, certain units at the homestay also provide guests with a terrace. At the homestay, all units are fitted with bed linen and towels. I usually don’t write reviews but this place is so good that I had no option but to write. This is a house. A proper house with a lovely backyard and cleanliness of highest standards. However, the real charm is the landlady. She is extremely polite and generous to the extent that she goes all the way to accommodate the guest’s needs. From little games to Onsen excursions, just staying at this property should be a reason good enough to visit Gifu. Finally, the food. I would recommend you to wake up super hungry because the landlady puts out a feast every morning! She is a cook par excellence and each dish (including the serveware) has a story to tell. It’s amazing how she manages everything on her own. There is nothing to not like about this place. I visited Gifu on a work trip but now this place has become my reason to return to Gifu. The city has an asset in this place and it truly shows you what Japan is when you take away the neon lights.

It is located 46 km from Gero Station and provides a housekeeping service. There is a picnic area and guests can make use of free WiFi and free private parking. A lovely old traditional house, beautifully renovated. Heaps of space, really comfortable with a great location in the town. The host is really friendly and helpful and made our stay very enjoyable. He helped us out with transport and food recommendations, organised luggage transfer for us and dropped us where we needed to be on our last day. A great bonus was the record player and a few records to spin in the evening!

Located in Nakatsugawa, Only one group stays per day -Tenmaya-家族や仲間と貸し切りゲストハウス 天満屋 is a historic guest house that provides free WiFi, and guests can enjoy a garden and a bar. The air-conditioned accommodation is 7.9 km from Mt. Ena Weston Park. The accommodation offers a shared kitchen and full-day security for guests. We arrived on a Wednesday and the cafe was closed so it was very quiet and peaceful. The door to the cafe was open and there was a welcome sign with our name on it as we approached the back where the stay is located. There were very nice dishes, glasses, coffee cups, etc. The bunk beds were comfortable and the drapes for privacy were a plus. We went for a sake tasting down the street which was simple but nice. We really enjoyed our stay here and would love to come back and stay longer. If you’re eating in town, you must make reservations!
