Magome, Nakatsugawa
Featuring mountain views and a garden, 馬籠ふるさと学校 Magome Furusato Gakkou offers accommodation attractively situated in Nakatsugawa, within a short distance of Toson Memorial Museum, Magome Wakihonjin Museum and Magome Observatory. The property is around 8.4 km from Otsumago, 10 km from Kotoku-ji Temple and 10 km from Sekibutsu Kanzan Jittoku Statue. The guest house features rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi. What really stands out, is the 5-star service by the receptionists. Actually even better than 5 stars, as there's none of the condescending glances one might get at 5-star hotels. :-D I'm especially grateful for the extra help I got from the bilingual Japanese receptionist. Despite hostel-style accommodation, I slept very well and found the bed to be comfy. The place is easy to reach on foot from Magome-juku bus stop, even with a large suitcase, as there's a pavement all the way.

I usually don’t write reviews but this place is so good that I had no option but to write. This is a house. A proper house with a lovely backyard and cleanliness of highest standards. However, the real charm is the landlady. She is extremely polite and generous to the extent that she goes all the way to accommodate the guest’s needs. From little games to Onsen excursions, just staying at this property should be a reason good enough to visit Gifu. Finally, the food. I would recommend you to wake up super hungry because the landlady puts out a feast every morning! She is a cook par excellence and each dish (including the serveware) has a story to tell. It’s amazing how she manages everything on her own. There is nothing to not like about this place. I visited Gifu on a work trip but now this place has become my reason to return to Gifu. The city has an asset in this place and it truly shows you what Japan is when you take away the neon lights.

Lovely hostel with a very clean kitchen. We stayed in a private room which can easily compete with a hotel room.
The environment is nice and great of this hotel. They have 2 buildings A and B, and each building got 5 rooms. Rooms is perfect, 3 Cs - clean, comfy and cozy. More to like a homestay. I will be back !! Wait for me. Thanks to the owner who keep us in great mood. The owner will respond via the message through Booking.com
Stayed here twice. Yumiko and Suguru were both so kind and helpful throughout the stay – they were great hosts, always sharing snacks and night-time chats with me. I'm so thankful for their care and hospitality throughout my stay. If you like interacting with locals, and finding out more about Japanese craft and culture, stay here! It's a beautiful, restful home.
The location, the place and the host. Location wise, it is not very close to the highly touristy spot but just within a few minutes walk away. It allows to enjoy a quiet and peaceful morning without missing out on the experience of the old town Takayama. The homestay is very clean and aesthetically pleasing too. I personally really liked the mini garden outside, a nice spot to enjoy your morning coffee. The host is also very responsive and accommodating. We even helped us get back the stuff we left behind. Highly recommended!
Comfortable and quiet. The host was so polite and helpful. He recommended us some good restaurants and brote us to the bus station in the morning because the bus was not running due to Japan’ golden week! Great host!
Great Host, facilities and comfort! Very good
Lots of space, quiet area, nice view of mount Ena. Great host! He went at great lenghts to help us book a restaurant in town on a busy evening. And helped us again, when train troubles had us delayed. Again, thank you so much. We can also highly recommend the restaurant reseveration.
The guesthouse is a beautiful 110 year old traditional wooden structure. The futon was very comfortable, all the facilities were great, and the room was spotless. Assi was a great host. I'd recommend Guesthouse Shigi to anyone visiting the Kiso Valley!
Great hosting, amazing Japanese breakfast. Great location near the market etc.
Clean and cosy homestay, the host is very friendly in ensuring that I am taken care of. He has a simple map which indicates the nearby to-go location, for example, 7-11, Onsen where locals go to.
