I went to Amsterdam early in the morning and came back late in the night. Ellen and Corné can pick you up from the station. You can borrow a bike from them, which is very handy for moving around the city, and extra that is not common in other places.

It's a very nice, safe feeling area, within 30 minutes relaxed walk to the centre of Utrecht, with nice cafés and restaurants within a 5 to 15 minute walk. It's on loads of bus routes if you don't feel like walking. I would definitely recommend staying here.
