What a stunning location. The deck and bougainvilleas and limestone cliffs are just phenomenal. With hand gestures and google translate, the live-in hosts Ha and Ling will try their very best attend to your requests. There are SUPs and Kayaks to use for free and although the weather was bad we kayaked around the islands through the fishing village and it was just incredible to see. The owner Thang is responsive and will assist in arranging boats, pick ups, water taxis etc. He joined us for dinner one evening and shared stories of life in Vietnam and his story of how he built this home. We had the room with the shared bathroom and it was never an issue that the bathroom was occupied etc. I would recommend you take with your own snacks (breakfast & lunch was included for our stay) as you can’t easily get to a shop. There are loads of different chill areas on the deck.

The rooms are housed in small bungalows and are located in a very lovingly designed garden. Our room was clean and the size was okay. There was even storage space. Air conditioning and fan worked well. The food in the associated restaurant was very good and the prices for it were also very okay. We also made a night trip by kayak to see the bioluminescent plankton. It was great. The breakfast was also very good and the evening herbal foot baths for which you can sign up are highly recommended. All the staff were very friendly and made us feel absolutely welcome. The best thing was that the facility is outside the city and thus far away from karaoke bars and the street noise. Very suitable for people who like to enjoy peace and quiet.

Since we went on the Lan Ha Bay / Halong Bay Day Cruise, I wanted a place which was a little off the beach and in the interiors of Cat Ba. The property was exactly as advertised and was in a quiet, serene location with a backwater away from the commercialised aspects of the city (on the reclaimed beach front) while being situated about 2.5 km from the City Centre. There are only 3 rooms in the property, so it's not very crowded. What I really liked was the hospitality of our host, Phurong who was extremely proactive from the time we booked the hotel. She was the epitome of Vietnamese hospitality and the best host I have had in any homestay till date. She told us exactly where we needed to go, what we needed to avoid and put everything on my Google Maps (including over half a dozen restaurants). It is also better to book any rental bikes, bus tickets, cruise tickets through Phurong as it saves a lot of time and is at par with the market rates. The complimentary breakfast was amazing with a lot of exotic fruits on my plate. If I ever come to Cat Ba again, no matter what my budget is, I will book my stay at Cat Ba Corner. If you're still having second thoughts about this property, I say go for it. I have been where you are and am glad I decided to stay at Corner Cat Ba and wouldn't change a thing.

Although it’s located a bit away from the town center, it’s close to the Hospital Cave and features a private hiking trail accessible from the garden. Scooter rental or the homestay’s transfer service makes getting around easy.
