Swanky Hostel – Zagreb 52 euros (including 6-euro breakfast) for one night. From our first steps in the door, this place was welcoming, friendly, and helpful. The quality went above and beyond all expectations. The young woman at the front desk spoke fluent English, she answered every question, pointed out where to park our car, and where to find good food. When we answered that my wife and I were not there to party, she found us a quiet room. The room was spectacularly clean and comfortable. The bane of my stays at hotels in Europe is the single/double bed problem. Swanky solved this problem in a fantastically simple way—put a double bed sheet around two single beds thereby making a double bed. This strategy seems to be simple and obvious, but not all hotels have figured this out. Outlets and light switches were next to the bed, there was a teapot and cups in the room. The shower was terrific with oceans of hot water. The only problem may have been the pressure out of the shower head was alarmingly strong—a “problem” that was easy to fix. The breakfast the next morning at the Fusion Bar next door was fabulous—milk, soy milk, yogurt, blueberries, raspberries, toast, margarine, breakfast cereals, goya beans (spelling?), oranges, apples, sliced meat and cheese, tea. The food was not the cheap stuff, either. The music was calm and not too loud. After we checked out, they were fine with us leaving our bags in the storeroom while we walked around Zagreb for 6 hours—coming back to the hotel several times to retrieve something or to drop off something. What’s more, the location was fabulous!

I was practically the only guest, 3 showers with no privacy and 2 bathroom (1 of the 2 with the sink) seems not enought honestly but if it's empty it's fine. an amazing local cusine at Restaurant Gabrek 1929, like 5 minutes from the hostel, by foot.
