The centrally located Rock Solid Backpackers Rotorua offers free WiFi, a neighboring rock-climbing wall and a spacious guest lounge including a tour desk, a billiards table and a cinema. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The kitchen and shared common spaces gave lots of space for different groups to hang out instead of being confined to your room which was nice. It was fairly easy to get to the highway and there is a grocery store within about a 10 minute walk. We didn't get a chance to check it out but it looked like the area had some night life as well as parks.

Newly opened and refurbished in October 2020, Wanderlust NZ is a waterfront hostel located in a historical building in downtown Tauranga. One of the nicest hostels I've been to! I loved the location, very beautiful building, and the terrace overlooking the bay is the perfect spot to have breakfast! Shout-out to the staff! They were so nice and helpful (especially Luciano), as a solo traveler it is much appreciated. The bathrooms and showers were clean, the dorms as well.

Located on a quiet street opposite Blake Park, Seagulls Guesthouse offers free fibre WiFi and is a 5-minute walk from Mount Maunganui Beach. basic but clean and not a far drive to wharf and business district streets. quiet, security good . Kitchen area and lounge area were fine, good for a short stay .
