Retiro is one of the most emblematic neighborhoods in Buenos Aires, located in the center of the city and with a great architectural and historical richness. Formerly the neighborhood of the elites, it continues to be a place of great importance and tourist attraction.
One of the main attractions of Retiro is the famous Plaza San Martin, a beautiful green space surrounded by elegant French and Neoclassical buildings, which pays homage to the Argentine hero Jose de San Martin. It is also the starting point of the famous Avenida del Libertador, which runs along the Rio de la Plata and is a great place to explore by bike.
Another must-see attraction in the Retiro neighborhood is the famous Recoleta Cemetery, one of the most beautiful and impressive in the world. Here you can find the graves of some of the most important figures in Argentine history, such as Eva Peron, and the mausoleums are true works of art.
Retiro also houses some of the best museums in the city, such as the National Museum of Fine Arts, which has an impressive collection of works by national and international masters. The Palacio de las Aguas Corrientes is another place not to be missed, as it is an impressive early 20th-century architectural work that housed the former Buenos Aires water treatment plant.
Finally, Retiro also has some of the best restaurants in the city, with a wide variety of gastronomic options for all tastes and budgets. In short, the Retiro neighborhood is a must-visit for any tourist visiting Buenos Aires, as it offers a unique combination of history, art, architecture, and gastronomy.
