There are just 2 tents on the 100 acres, so the experience is one of secluded Glamping and not tents cramped together. There is some history to the property, most of the large Jarrah was cleared in the early 20th century. We know that some of the early owners (in the 1920’s) were a couple of Spanish sisters who (apparently) emigrated to Australia under a cloud. One of the older locals (25 years ago) told us that he remembered them driving around the village in a pony and trap. The last ( rotting) remnants of the trap were on the property when we arrived. Before we bought it the owner used it for running cattle with just a one room weekender without power. The Spanish sisters established an orchard and some of the old fruit trees are still standing. They built their wooden home but it had collapsed by the time we bought the property. We built the current house when we arrived and pitched our glamping tents at the end of 2020. There is real history on this property and we still turn up bits and pieces around the place. Since buying the property we have rehabilitated the winter creek line and planted hundred of trees. We know that we are just temporary custodians of the property and we hope that you will appreciate Its natural beauty that surrounds you. We love to share it with you.
We have lived on the property for nearly 25 years and we are blessed with a great lifestyle. We have lived in the U.K., Holland, France, Sweden, and Indonesia before we arrived in Australia as business migrants i(1988) and just love it. We are so grateful that we are Australians, even though we still speak with a North country, U.K. accent. Gwyn has always enjoyed running a stud operation breeding animals, Egyptian Arab Horses in Holland, Indonesia and Australia , sheep, cattle and award winning alpacas. John had his own businesses in Europe and South East Asia and has a masochistic interest in politics. Together we help organise the unique Hills Billy Cart Festival. The last Sunday in October is the big day and the village transforms with kids, parents and their fantabulous billy cart creations. Check out the Facebook page. On 100 scenic acres we love sharing the property with folk who come here to get away from the City and the “ maddening crowd”. This is a new venture for our retirement and we love it when others appreciate where we live. We would love to share our enthusiasm with you and help you to create some great memories. We are latecomers to being hosts but just love meeting people and sharing our serenity. The perfect short romantic get away in the Perth Hills.
Mount Helena is an old timber milling village with a nice little park in the centre of the village ( Pioneer Park). There is an old fashioned hills pub that serves food, a deli, a convenience store, servo and a great little coffee shop that serves coffee and breakfast bagels etc... Just a quaint little village typical of many in the Perth Hills. The water pipeline to Kalgoorlie runs through the village and there are lots of walking, riding, mountain bike riding throughout the area. Lake Leschenaultia is just a short walk ( 2.3kms) from your camp site and you can enjoy a dip in the clear waters, go canoeing or have a BBQ at the edge of the lake. It is a true jewel of the Hills and definitely worth a visit.
