I love travelling the world myself – and that’s exactly why I enjoy offering my guests a place that feels like home. My name is Martin, founder and managing director of Midtown Boardinghouse. I’ve been running our centrally located houses in Hamburg since 2014 – with great attention to detail and a very personal touch.
The idea behind Midtown didn’t come out of nowhere: I grew up in a family-run guesthouse, and from an early age I knew that one day I’d like to become a host myself – but with a modern, urban concept. Midtown Boardinghouse is not a traditional hotel, but a well-thought-out, individual home away from home: personal, authentic, and full of character.
In my earlier career – including my time as a project manager at a well-known electronics company – I gained valuable experience in organisation, quality management and customer service. Alongside that, I developed practical skills as a craftsman and helped design much of our interior myself – sometimes working solo, sometimes in collaboration with a close friend and carpenter from Hamburg. Many of our beds and washbasins are unique pieces, handmade from reclaimed Hamburg doors and scaffold boards.
Being a host is not about renting out rooms – it’s about welcoming people on their journey. I look forward to every message, every booking, and every guest interaction. My goal is to make each stay something special – whether through a warm welcome, a flexible solution, or simply a good feeling.

Welcome to MIDTOWN BOARDINGHOUSE Hamburg – individual, central, personal.
We offer fully furnished rooms for short- and long-term stays with hotel-like services in the vibrant district of Eimsbüttel.
At our Martin-Luther-King-Platz location, we provide 9 bright, spacious rooms of various sizes – all with private bathrooms.
We’re not a hotel, but a modern boarding house – similar to a guesthouse, with a unique and personal concept. Each room is individually designed. Beds and washbasins were made by a Hamburg carpenter, using reclaimed doors and scaffolding boards. Interiors are intentionally minimalist, focusing on essentials.
There’s no reception, but we try to greet guests in person. Please share your expected arrival time – ideally the day before – and check messages from us. Arrivals via keybox are possible at any time. Early or late check-in/out is available on request and subject to availability and a fee.
Invoices can be issued – just send us your billing address and email, as Booking does not provide your contact details.
Room photos represent the category – each room is unique. Some rooms have access to a shared balcony (not private, as it serves as a fire escape).
Guests can use a fully equipped shared kitchen with hob, oven, fridge compartment, dishes and more. A coin-operated washing machine is also available.
Our central location is close to Dammtor Station and Planten un Blomen park. Parking nearby is limited – free from 8 pm to 9 am, otherwise metered (max. 3 hrs). We recommend the Messe car park (approx. 10 mins on foot). Numerous restaurants and takeaways are right in the building.
Ideal for anyone in need of a quiet place while flat-hunting in Hamburg – or simply a comfortable home for a while.
