There are mountains to the rear of the property where the swimming pool is located, and where you can watch the sun go down with orange groves all the way from the field next to the villa as far as you can see before the mountains in the distance. A fantastic place to enjoy a sundowner.
Because of the villas elevated position, there are views all the way to the sea from the front. From the veranda you can watch the sun rise in the morning and the day start whilst having breakfast.
This is a very secluded location, the nearest house being 150m away and with its elevated position, no other property overlooks the villa. Very quiet and respectable neighbourhood. We wanted an elevated position, firstly for the views to the coast, but also being slightly higher the villa benefits more from any breeze there might be, which in the heat of the day is most welcome wafting through the house.
The large garden and borders are well designed and laid out. They are a mix of colourful flowers and bushes around the house and up the drive, and an acre of productive olive trees in the lower grounds (the olive oil produced from our own trees, is yours to use while you stay). Our professional gardener, has worked hard to improve the stock and health of the plants and this work is now paying dividends.
Inside there is a large well equipped kitchen, dining area with large table to sit 8 people, 2 lounges (one quiet, one TV room) and three large bathrooms besides the three bedrooms. The property is spacious both indoors and out, allowing guests to sit together or find their own space too.
The swimming pool is large, both long and wide. It has a spring board too at one end, where the water is deep to accommodate diving. There are sunloungers around the pool, a BBQ and table and chairs under a large static gondola, perfect for meals outside.
Casa Colina is designed and equipped as somewhere where we would want to stay ourselves.
Our cleaners Jo and Tracy are committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and live locally, so can provide you with everything you need to know about the house and, having lived in the area for many years now, they can help you plan your holiday and places to visit.
We also employ someone to look after the pool and a gardener so everything is taken care of leaving you to relax and enjoy the garden and the facilities.
We enjoy eating out and there is a very diverse and good quality of restaurants around the area, traditional Andulucian and international. There are many local restaurants serving fabulous local dishes at very reasonable prices (10 euros for 3 course meal and drink), particularly at lunchtimes. Along the beaches there are more than 50 Chiringuitos, serving fresh barbecued fish and cold drinks.
We will do everything we can to ensure you have a comfortable stay while in Spain
Spain obviously enjoys the predictably good weather all through the year. The villa is located in a predominantly Spanish area, so there are plenty of local fairs and traditions through the year in the local towns. The villa is far enough away from the main tourist areas, but within easy access of the beaches and restaurants. The villa is in an area mainly of local (fairly wealthy) people. Our nearest neighbour Miguel, helps with garden and house maintenance, and is always quick to help sort out any issues you might have. Our only other neighbours are English and very friendly and helpful too.
The nearest village, Antas is the nicest traditional village in the area, and has restaurants, bars, shops, chemist, doctors etc. Their fiestas draw Spaniards from throughout the area.
In Almanzora 5kms away, there is the Lunar Cable Water Park with wakeboarding, kayak and bar
The area is known for its cave houses, many of which are still inhabited, but deserted ones can be visited. The area is rich in history with Moorish and Roman architecture. Each small town has their own market days, often two per week where local, seasonal produce is sold. The fish market in Garucha is fabulous, but requires an early start.
The beaches all along from Playa del Rey to Mojacar are incredibly clean, expansive and well maintained. Even in high season, this part of Spain remains relatively free from the tourist crowds.
