I am a Belgian national and speak fluent English, French, Dutch and some Spanish. I lived in the Middle East for many years, and managed 25 houses in a compound, with many expats. My Irish-Canadian partner and I moved to Gaucin from Gibraltar, seeking space and walking trails. We were struck by Gaucin with its particular friendliness towards foreigners, and it being an artist, music and writers colony. The reconstruction was a three year project involving working with a Sevilla architect and local contractors. I wanted and got high standards from them - I take great interest in comfort and convenience. The 3 big bedrooms accommodating up to (6) + (2) guests, together with the features of the Terrace, are perfect for couples looking to get away from crowds and congestion. The bedrooms have been decorated from my travels in Africa: Kenya, Morocco and Zanzibar. All beds are dressed in linens from the UK that provide a very comfortable night´s sleep. On the Terrace, guests can enjoy themselves either playing pool, doing board games, reading from the extensive library, or watching smart TV. From the bedroom balconies and Terrace the views are stunning looking down to the Med.
CASA EMILIANA is a very short walk to the village square or the newly restored ¨Convento¨ where there are outdoor concerts and other music or artist events. There is a new and very well equipped gym (yoga and other lessons), and public swimming pool. There are diverse and documented walking trails, many are loops from the village, or connect to nearby other Pueblo Blancos. Some trails are through pine, chestnut or cork oak forests where they still cut the cork. A number of walks are relatively easy, and some not so easy. El Hacho mountain, which dominates the landscape, has its own trail starting from the village. See ¨21 Walks Around Gaucin¨ by Patrick Elvin. Gaucin is well known for eagles and other raptors circling in its skies, and is directly on the bird migratory path back and forth from Europe to Africa. Gaucin is very well placed logistically as a base to travel from. It is only a 45 minute drive to the famous historic town of Ronda. There is an express train from Ronda to Madrid. There is also a local train. Possible day trips to Sevilla, Grenada, Cordoba, or Jerez de la Frontera. Gibraltar airport is only 55 minute, and Malaga airport 1 hour 30 minutes, by car.
