周辺エリアの情報
Located in the municipality of Santa María de Guía, which is 27 kilometres from the island's capital, at an altitude of 180 metres above sea level. It is a municipality framed by a rocky coastline, where erosion has been the protagonist of its cliffs.
The natural environment of Santa María de Guía is characterised by a great variety of ecosystems, environments and landscapes. This diversity has allowed a large part of its natural spaces to be catalogued in the Canarian Law of Protected Natural Spaces. Thus, we find the Special Nature Reserve of El Brezal, the Rural Park of Doramas, the Natural Monument of Montañón Negro or the Protected Landscape of Las Cumbres, all of them shared with the neighbouring municipalities.
The town centre was declared a National Historic-Artistic Monument in 1982. Amongst its buildings we can highlight the Parish Church, whose façade is in neoclassical style. Inside, there are some very important works of art, such as altarpieces and images by the great Canary Island sculptor José Luján Pérez, a native of this municipality.
The Casa de Los Quintana is another example of the architecture of the municipality. Located in the Plaza Mayor square in Santa María de Guía, it dates from the 17th century. The Canarian-Mudejar wooden balcony and the family coat of arms stand out.
An interesting place to stop is the Néstor Álamo Museum. A multifaceted artist from Gran Canaria who excelled in various branches of music, archiving, architectural restoration and research into the history, culture and customs of the islands.
The San Roque Chapel is also part of the Historical Heritage. It is located in the Plaza de San Roque, in the upper part of the city. It is a relatively modern building in the neoclassical style, made of lime and local stonework.
14 kilometres from the centre of Santa María de Guía, in Montaña Alta, the much-anticipated and popular annual Cheese Festival is held.
