¡BIENVENIDOS! ONGI ETORRI! BIENVENUE & WELCOME!! The Urkia pension is a family pension, in the heart of San Sebastian. The origins are centered in the mountains, where the first person who founded the pension is from in the mid-80s. Urkia means birch in Basque and it is also the name of a valley in the mountains of the interior of Guipuzcoa, in the heart of Goierri.
My name is Juan Mari, I have run this pension for 10 years, and previously it belonged to my mother. I have a degree in Sciences of Physical Activity and Sports, but i had always love this profession, perhaps because I have lived it since I was little. We are a humble family that thanks to this work we have been able to live a lifetime. I really like my job, talking to people, knowing where they are from and explaining what they can see and do in San Sebastian.
We are in the heart of the city. We are 100m from the famous Playa de La Contxa, just 5min from the old part (historic center), about 15min from the Kursaal building and about 30min from Peine del Viento (sculpture by Eduardo Chillida), all this on foot. In front we find the San Martin market, where among other things are the Fnac and the largest Zara store in Europe.
