The apartment is in a mid century house called Mäntylinna (Pine Castle), which was originally built for the employees of the Serlachius Paper Mills. It consists of 24 similar one bedroom apartments. The whole house served as a venue for one of the first Mänttä Contemporary Arts Festivals in 1995, as all the apartments were filled with art. After that summer the Paper Mill sold the house and all the apartments are now privately owned.
I was born and raised in Mänttä, but moved away already after graduation decades ago. When Mänttä began to gain reputation as an Art Town with all the numerous Art Exhibitions, Music and Food Festivals, I decided to acquire a free-time home there, nearby the lovely 1918 villa I lived in as a teenager. As I do not use the apartment very often myself, I'm glad to welcome guests there in the meantime!
All the main art attractions of The Mänttä Art Town are within easy reach from this apartment. It's only 4 km's to the Gösta museum and Joenniemi manor. And Pekilo, the central point of the Mänttä Contemporary Arts Festival is only 5 minutes walk away.
