Le Clos Castel is owned and run by husband and wife; Clint and Carol, after over thirty years of traveling extensively during Clint’s career as a former British Army Officer we’re now looking forward to putting down roots at long last. We’ve previously lived in Germany and the United Kingdom before moving to France in early 2023. We are both keen cyclists (Clint is a John O’Groats to Land’s End veteran) and enjoy keeping fit in the relaxed surroundings of rural Normandy. We love sharing our home with guests from all around the globe, we love the mix of languages and the varied experiences that each new guest has to offer. Slowly we are mastering the French language and learning about the history and culture of our new environment.
We have established Le Clos Castel to offer its visitors time to relax, to re-connect with family or nature and find some peace and tranquillity in this non-stop, fast-moving world - please come and share it with us.

Le Clos Castel “The Enclosed Castle” is a characterful stone farmhouse which was completely re-built in the 1950’s under the Marshall Plan and has changed very little since. Tastefully decorated to retain it’s period charm the house retains clay tiled floors in the entrance and hallway whilst the oak staircase, with its eight North facing windows, leads to the spacious bedrooms with wooden floorboards throughout.
All our rooms are furnished with a fitting blend of antique or vintage French furniture with the sole aim of making you feel at home from the very moment you arrive. Draw your thermal-lined, blackout curtains and leave the world behind for a while! Of course our beds are all new; our super-king doubles are 180 x 200cm and can all be prepared as twin singles if preferred. Every room contains a ‘set de courtoisie’ for your hot drinks and your bathroom essentials are provided, all of which are hand-picked for quality.
Your guest lounge contains a selection of books on the local area; chateaux, panoramas and D-Day related as well as a comprehensive library of DVDs and Xbox games for any gamers out there.
Our dining room seats our guests in comfort at the oversized farmhouse table where you’ll often take your breakfast alongside multiple different nationalities, this shared meal really is as convivial as it is heartening. Wherever possible our produce is sourced locally, our boulanger is the best in the area!
When the weather allows you’ll always have the garden at your disposal, the picnic bench is very popular in the summer. If its not so warm out our huge games room contains a pool table and table football.

If you are looking for a tranquil holiday surrounded by nature then look no further. Le Clos Castel is set within the Marais de Cotentin regional park with an abundance of wildlife and sights to enjoy. With almost no light pollution in the area watching the sunset and star gazing in the clear night skies above is a joy.
Our location is almost exactly in the centre of the entire Cotentin Peninsula; from the Cap de la Hague in the extreme North West to Caen in the East and Mont St Michel to our South you really can see it all in a series of days out, without ever needing to travel for much more than an hour by car. Closer to us we have the historic town of Carentan (of ‘Band of Brothers’ fame) 12 km away with the fantastic D-Day experience and the Victory Museum amongst others. Our nearest D-Day beach is Utah, again a fantastic museum can be found directly on the beach. A day’s exploration can easily take in St Marie du Mont (first commune liberated), Utah, St Vaast la Hougue (a real hidden gem of Normandy) and, of course St Mere Eglise.
To our West we are blessed with seemingly endless, quiet, sandy beaches and quaint fishing villages; from the Cap to Granville there really are too many to list but Lessay with its 15th Century Abbey, Pirou with its impressive fortified chateau and Portbail Sur Mer with its stunning views towards Jersey are some of our favourites. Créances-Plage is just 22km away and offers all the usual seaside activities as well as being highly popular for mussel-picking at low-tide.
Please be aware that you are in the countryside; there are no shops, restaurants or bars within walking distance although the nearby towns of Périers and Carentan are within a few minutes’ drive.
For those that enjoy the natural feel our guests can expect to see a good deal of wildlife; buzzards, owls (Tawny and Screech), deer and hare have been just some of our regular visitors during our time here, just be careful not to scare them away!
