We are Luke and Claire, we met in Montreal more than 20 years ago. Back in France we spent our free time renovating old stone houses to give them a new life. Luke is Australian and French and Claire French, Belgian and English. We love sharing our homes and our love of the bay. Luke runs the Café de la Baie in a 2CV Citroën van fitted to offer fresh and hot local and organic drinks.
Genêts is a picturesque and peaceful village located in the bay on the edge of the salt marshes which are home to many species of bird and the famous sheep of the bay of Mont Saint Michel ("moutons pré-salé").
The village was an important trading port in the middle ages and the departure point for pilgrims on their way to the Mont-Saint-Michel. Today the famous "traversée de la baie" or walks across the bay depart from the Bec d'Andaine, the local beach. We can recommend some guides for you.
Genêts is situated on the great hiking trail the GR223, which will take you through some beautiful scenery in either direction. You can access it a few steps from the house.
In the village there is the restaurant La Pause des Genêts which offers creative gourmet cuisine in an artistic and bohemian decor, a bakery a few steps away for fresh bread, yummy pastries and home made ice cream in summer and a small convenient store.
The village has a river, a water mill, and a heritage listed 12th century church with a lovely garden and cemetary, a tourist office and a post office.
There are more restaurants, bars, cafes, stores, large supermarkets and an organic food shop in Avranches (15 minutes drive) and Granville (25 minutes drive). For recommendations on things to see and do in the area, check out our guide (https://www.baiedumontsaintmichel.com/en/home) or don't hesitate to ask us.
