Cooking facilities comprising cooker and oven are available within the gite as well as full BBQ facilities for outdoor feasts which can be eaten on a terrace overlooking fields of sunflower or rape. Equipped with washing machine and fridge and a private bathroom with shower and bath and toilet you have all the amenities available to make your stay comfortable. We provide linen and towels (which includes towels for the bathroom and the swimming pool area). The idyllic studio gite with pool is both practical and pleasant – a convenient and comfortable base from which to explore the surrounding beauty of the Gartempe valley or to enjoy the refreshing coolness of the lovely swimming pool which is right on your doorstep. YOUR HOSTS Stephen and Madeleine met in 1980 when Stephen was leading the second violins in the Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet Orchestra (now The Royal Ballet Sinfonia) and Australian born Madeleine had just joined the company as a fledgling dancer with the corps de ballet. By the time they became partners and married in 1992 Stephen was working with the Royal Philharmonic orchestra, touring the world with famous musical names, and Madeleine, who had retired from ballet, had just completed her degree in English literature. In 2004 they moved from the UK with their two young daughters to France where they set up giteholidaysinfrancedotcom by converting outbuildings into rental accomodation at their property in La Faye in the pretty and unspoilt La Vienne department, much of the building work having been done by themselves. The gites were a great success and many visitors enjoyed the calm atmosphere of La Faye and the pretty villages and towns of the surrounding area. The two went their separate ways for a few years but always remained on good terms – so much so that in 2019 they married for a second time, Madeleine returning from Australia where she had been living to live with Stephen in the UK. Now they return to France to pick up the gite business they left, and to invest in it their special blend of hospitality and artistic joy. Envisaging a place of happiness and comfort equipped with a fabulous vegetable garden and art studio and music room they are excited about this latest chapter in their lives.

Only 30 mins form Poitiers Airport where Ryanair fly from London Stansted. Paris is accessible in 90 mins from Poitiers by TGV. The beautiful coast of La Rochelle only 120 mins away by car. Surrounded by glorious fields this peaceful and tranquil setting will provide true relaxation for any person hoping to have a break from the pressures of modern life. For the more active person there are a host of activities on offer from walking, cycling, horse riding, canoeing & fishing to exploring the best markets and restaurants La Vienne has to offer. Near our idyllic gites, the River Gartempe with its verdured banks is one of the Vienne’s most beautiful rivers. Home to an abundance of wildlife it offers a variety of activities from a quiet boat trip fishing to an exciting day out canoeing or kayaking. The river winds its way through several historic towns including Montmorillon a small medieval town which prospered from the manufacture of parchment and Saint Savin with its remarkable Abbey which is famous for its beautiful Romanesque frescoes listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site.
