In 2021, Nigel and I embarked on a new adventure and we moved to this idyliic corner of France where we have been very fortunate to take over this beautifully renovated distillery. Having worked in the hospitality industry for many years Nigel and I very much enjoy welcoming guests and helping them make the most out of their stay in the area. As a family we love living here, we enjoy the weather and the amazing local produce along with the rich and wonderful cultural events and festivals all over the region.

The translation of the name L'Ancienne Distillerie means former distillery and that is what the site was. The site is a collection of argricultural buildings dating from around 1850 all built from the local white stone and topped with terracota 'roman' style tiles and set around the original farm house. Whist the interiors have been completely renovated, the exteriors have been returned to their original glory. Whilst we may not produce cognac any more, the property is still surrounded by vineyards and is set in the very heart of the Cognac producing region.

One of the wonderful things about rural France is the number of unique events that take place throughout the year, a real must-see to experience the real France. Of course no visit to the area would be complete without a visit to one of the many Cognac producers be they a luxury brand such as Hennessy or a local operation that has been handed down through the generations. You must also be sure to try the local liqueur 'Pineau des Charentes' made from cognac and grape juice, delicious served cool as an aperitif. During your stay, you can enjoy the beautiful valley of the river Charente, Romanesque churches, Michelin starred restaurants, picturesque villages or spend a day at the beach.
