After travelling and living in various parts of the world, we (Joost and Sze) spent one and a half years to overhaul a 185 years bourgeoise house into La Min-sú de Terrasson (石木民宿) with our own hands.
Our proposition; 'Experience our twist on the min-sú / guesthouse, combining European charm with personal cosmopolitan experience. A kind of oriental subtleness; being comfortable but not conspicuous; sophisticated but not trop chic'.
Over the years we have also transformed the grange with our bare hands again, standing detached at the back of the house, into La Min-sú de Terrasson - Le Gîte guided by the same principles. Creating an open space duplex, preserving the en pierre walls and wooden charpente, but with a clean modern twist of “Quiet Luxury”. To serve more independent clients by providing a self-contained space, with its own entrance and garden.
Located in town, with an attractive old center, and all basic amenities: restaurants, local shops, artisans workshops, supermarkets, clinics, banks and a local train station within 5 minutes walking distance.
Our story began in the mid-nineties when we met as students. Sze studied at the European Dance Development Centre and Joost studied Natural Resources Management in Arnhem, The Netherlands.
After finishing our studies Sze went back to Hong Kong while Joost worked in Botswana and the Philippines where he worked with indigenous peoples on the sustainable use of their natural resources (Sze joined him after married). Afterwards we lived in a remote part of Ghana where Joost worked on resolving resources conflicts in and around national parks.
Ten years later we moved to Hong Kong so Sze could pursue her interests in art and dance. Sze founded Breeze Across Us, a dance troupe experimenting with the relationship between dance and the sensory. Sze received the Hong Kong Dance award in 2004, and Special Award for HK Dance Film Maker in 2008.
Another 10 years on, and we were evaluating our lives again. We sought a way to create a space to share our experiences. After traveling through North-East Asia the idea of a retreat or min-sú started to take shape, but one with a twist...
The Dordogne, Limousin and the Lot are the heart and soul of la belle France, dense oak forests, winding rivers and famously rich cooking. It’s the stuff of which French dreams are made: turreted châteaux, medieval villages and markets overflow with pâté, truffles, walnuts, cheeses and fine wines.'
At the La Min-sú de Terrasson - guesthouse, we assist travelers to organize itineraries, offering multi-language guidance to non-driving guests to savor the best of our castle-strewn river-lands and mesmerizing prehistoric cave paintings.
Terrasson-Lavilledieu is an ideal, off the tourist trail, base from which to explore the highlights of this beautiful area.
We think a week is the minimum to quiet down and visit this extensive area (a stay of 2 weeks would be ideal). We do not rent by the hour, not even by the day, our min-sú is a destination to kick-back, slow-down, return to the self, not a space to just pass-through. You stay with the owners, just two persons who live in and run the place, this means an approachable, intimate place to share experiences.
