The cottage dates from the 18th century is situated in a peaceful hamlet. It is full of charm and character - the living room has a large open fireplace, traditional Breton oak beams and exposed stonework. The kitchen is light and airy with lovely views of the orchard and was recently renovated along with the bathroom upstairs.
On the first floor, the property has been creatively renovated to retain all its original features. As a result, the bedrooms are not completely private (enclosed) and the 2nd and 3rd 'bedrooms' are on a mezzanine level, joined by a bridge. It's quite quirky but has proved a great hit with young families who like being close to each other - and the little 'medieval' bed with its tapestry and curtains is much loved by children!
It is perfect for families who want to get away from stress and screen time - we have loved beach visits or woodland walks during the day, and hanging out together in the evening.
Or couples or friends who enjoy cycling, walking, cooking - but not if you want any nightlife other than the local owls...
My husband and I bought our gorgeous little cottage in Brittany eighteen years ago. We never expected to have so many lovely holidays and experiences, and over the years we have discovered some really beautiful places all within easy drive, cycle or walk from La Ville Josse. Our three children have all learnt to ride their bicycles in the lane beside the house and spent many happy hours climbing the nearby trees, running over the stepping stones in the river, and naming the cows in the orchard!
The nearby village of Plessala is five minutes drive away and has a supermarket, bakery, butcher, pharmacy, tabac, bank, snack bar and crèperie. There is a small children's play area, crazy golf and fishing available at the lake where there are sometimes celebrations with music, dancing and fireworks. Plessala hosts a market every Thursday where some fantastic local goats cheeses and other produce can be bought.
The property is five minutes walk from the tranquil site of La Roche au Cerfs, a renovated watermill, and an ideal starting point for walks and cycle rides. We are 45 minutes drive from the beaches of Pléneuf-Val-André, and under two hours to the southern beaches of Brittany and the beautiful town of Vannes. There is a wealth of charming medieval towns with reasonably priced restaurants within easy reach (Moncontour, Lamballe, Dinan, Josselin).
