Le Coteau d’Olliergues in the heart of the Livradois Forez and combines fantastic food and beautiful scenery with a relaxed family atmosphere.
Built in the 1930’s, Le Coteau overlooks the historic village of Olliergues and is ideally located to explore the Auvergne or for a relaxing pause on route to the south. Our rooms are light-filled and spacious, with private bathrooms and unrivaled views of the surrounding farmland and mountains. The vast gardens offer the chance to relax in the sun and the dining room is open all day with WiFi, tea, coffee and homemade cakes. Our reputation for great food is founded on local produce with daily menus inspired by the seasons and can be adapted to dietary requirements. Guided market trips and our famous CheeseSkool Experience take place throughout the year.
Whilst the skies here are huge and the mountain air breathtakingly pure, we are far from isolated. The towns of Thiers and Ambert are less than 30 minutes away, as is the A89 motorway Lyon to Bordeaux. Clermont-Ferrand airport is 60 minutes away with regular flights including the UK and we have off-road parking with covered standing for motorcycles.
A warm welcome awaits you in our large family home set high on a hillside overlooking the beautiful village of Olliergues. Originally from the UK, we moved to Olliergues in 2016 with our 4 children. As a family we grew up in hospitality industry having run a very successful restaurant in the UK for over 15 years. My wife, Sam is an award winning chef, food writer and broadcaster and good food has always been a passion. The Auvergne has the reputation of the best produce in France and it’s a joy creating dishes with such fantastic ingredients.
We are both experienced travelers, with and without the children! We appreciate the luxury of staying somewhere you can all relax (or run around!) in a warm, friendly atmosphere. For walkers and cyclists we have maps, guides and can even provide a packed lunch. Bike storage is also not a problem. For families we have travel cots, children’s books and games plus lots of ‘insider’ tips for great places to visit. Whatever you needs, we are happy to help to make your stay truly perfect.
The Auvergne is one of the last truly unspoilt areas of ‘real’ France and provides the perfect combination of plenty to do, gorgeous countryside and a down-to-earth, friendly welcome. For decades, it has been a popular year-round destination for the French and yet is unknown to many outside of the region. It is an area of spectacular natural beauty with a mix of volcanic mountain scenery, pretty rural villages, historic towns and one of France’s largest nature reserves – the Regional Park of Livradois-Forez. Every outdoor activity imaginable is on our doorstep - peaceful walks; mountain climbing; tree safaris, zip wires, hang-gliding; lake swimming.... In winter there are several Ski Stations with all the facilities except the queues! The Auvergne has always been renowned for it's produce with amazing markets, food producers and food festivals. Once the most famous wine region in France, Auvergne vineyards are gaining notoriety on the world stage for their fantastic Volcanic wines. And of course there are museums, tourist railway, music festivals, raft races, antique brocantes, art workshops, village fetes, fishing lakes, cookery classes... the list just goes on .
