It’s hard to know where to start, a centuries old manor with all the history to go with it, exceptional place to stay rural but still close to town

Our stay was excellent. Breakfast was good. The twin room was spacious and comfortable. And the wider grounds and buildings added to the rustic character of the hotel. Christine was great in recommending places to see and eat.

The Manoir has an ancient and varied past. The land it stands on was originally granted by Richard the Lionheart, and was also listed in an inventory of the local Knights Templar upon their dissolution; the property then passed into Knights Hospitaller hands. It was owned for a period of time by the Doyens (Deans) of Bayeux cathedral, and more recently, served as a D-Day hospital after the Allied invasion; graffiti left by some of the soldiers can still be seen in the barns. Legend also has it that a secret tunnel leads from the Manoir to the nearby 12th century church... who knows? We have a small D-Day museum onsite, and also a chapel; both are free to use.
Christophe is a native of Bayeux and worked for many years as a journalist; he speaks English and French fluently. He loves old movies, classic American cars and good wine. Christine is a Londoner, and a former teacher; she loves ancient Greece, birdwatching and the old 70's tv series The Walton's! We love to travel, and we are both fans of ancient history.
The centre of Bayeux with all its shops, museums and restaurants is just a ten minute walk from the Manoir, and sites such as Omaha Beach are just a twenty minute drive, so we're pretty central to everything. D-Day tours are very popular here; Guests can book English speaking tours either in town, or private tours which depart from the Manoir.
