This self-contained, self-catering cottage is situated near the beautiful village of Ste. Thérence, department of Allier. The sunny south facing garden overlooks the surrounding countryside and includes a table for outdoor dining and flower beds. There are also herbs and strawberry plants (when in season) for use by our guests. The garden is fully enclosed and has a barbeque and an array of solar lights to illuminate the garden at night. On arrival guests are presented with a welcome basket that includes tea, coffee, chocolate and herbal teas, and a light breakfast. On cooler early spring or late autumn days we will put the heating on before guests arrive for a really warm welcome.
For the comfort of our taller guests we have installed a 2m double bed. All the covers and bed linens are included, as are bathroom towels and toilet paper. A baby bed is available on request and includes covers, linen, and pillow. There is also a changing mat and a baby towel. For travelling pets there are bowls, pet bed and towel on request, as well as a crate (up to medium dog size) for pet safety if required.
In 2024 we carried out extensive refurbishment to the exterior of the property and installed solar panels.
We are Terry and Martine from England, retired from professional life and enjoying the tranquil beauty of this part of France with Princess Maisie. We opened our doors in 2020 and since then we have welcomed guests from all over Europe and as far away as the USA and Australia and New Zealand.
We live adjacent to the gîte and so are available to welcome you personally and make suggestions about restaurants, things to do and places to visit. If you are travelling with pets we will also put you in touch with the local veterinary surgeon to arrange passports and vaccinations.
In between managing the gîte, developing a moderately sized vegetable plot and making jams and preserves from our own fruit, we take time out to explore our surroundings. There are some wonderful walks nearby, and we also enjoy cycling along the Canal du Berry and taking picnics alongside the river Cher.
We look forward to meeting you.
Les Papillons is situated in a farming hamlet in the depths of the countryside. There is very little traffic and often the only sounds to be heard are birdsong, bees and grasshoppers, and an occasional cow. This rural spot is very quiet at night. The cottage is a few kilometers from the nearest supermarkets but there are restaurants and cafés locally. This is a very popular area for cyclists, walkers and hikers and the cottage stands on the circular walk to the ruins of the chateau of l'Ours, and takes in the church of Ste Thérence which boasts the tomb of Ste Thérence in its grounds. The town of Montluçon is not far away and has a large selection of supermarkets, restaurants and entertainments to suit most tastes. The thermal spa towns of Neris les Bains and Evaux les Bains are also not far and there are thermal treatments, restaurants and casinos available.
