On the edge of the Marais Poitevin, in the quiet village of Saint-Saturnin-du-Bois, Maison Sonora offers a timeless escape.
More than just a guesthouse, it is a space for deep reconnection — to nature, to oneself, to the present moment. Imagined as an intimate and poetic retreat, this former country home has been fully restored using raw and noble materials, to welcome travelers in search of peace, harmony, and sensory experience
Welcome to our home, Maison Sonora.
We are Tom and Anneso, and it is with great joy that we open the doors of our guesthouse to you. Maison Sonora is a dream come true — a place to slow down, reconnect with nature, with others… and most importantly, with yourself.
Here, every detail has been carefully considered to cultivate calm, beauty, and simplicity. We love raw materials, natural light, objects with a story — and above all, creating an atmosphere where everyone feels free, at ease, and truly welcome.
We love hosting travelers. Perhaps because we’ve been travelers ourselves, often and for a long time. What we cherish most are the unexpected encounters, the conversations over coffee, the shared silences in the garden, those suspended moments when everything simply feels right.
Do you enjoy walking in nature, getting lost in a book, meditating under a tree, or listening to the sound of a singing bowl? Then you’re in the right place. Whether you come to dream, create, rest, write, or simply breathe — our home is here for that.
We’ll be happy to welcome you, to help you discover the Marais Poitevin, to prepare you a homemade breakfast — or simply to give you space if that’s what you need. There’s no fixed schedule here, just a setting designed for ease and gentle living.
See you soon at Maison Sonora.

Exploring the Surroundings of Maison Sonora
Maison Sonora is located in Saint-Saturnin-du-Bois, a peaceful little village nestled at the gateway to the Marais Poitevin, in the Charente-Maritime region of western France. Surrounded by fields, sunken lanes, and leafy woodlands, our home is ideally situated for those seeking to escape the bustle of city life and reconnect with the slower rhythms of nature.
Just a few minutes’ walk from the house, you’ll find hiking trails bordered by ancient hedgerows, pollarded oak trees, and gentle streams. These paths often lead to open views over the surrounding countryside — perfect for a morning walk, a forest bath, or a contemplative sunset stroll.
A short 10-minute drive takes you to Surgères, a lively and charming town with a covered market, local producers, a fortified Romanesque church, and cozy cafés. Surgères is also a strategic TGV station, offering direct access to Paris in 2.5 hours and La Rochelle in just 20 minutes.
To the west, La Rochelle awaits — a beautiful Atlantic city with a historic port, cobblestone streets, gourmet food markets, and beaches. It’s a vibrant cultural hub, ideal for a day trip rich in heritage, sea air, and sunny café terraces.
But the true jewel of the region is undoubtedly the Marais Poitevin, often called the Green Venice. This regional natural park stretches across miles of peaceful canals, lush meadows, and charming villages. From Coulon, Arçais, or La Garette, you can set off on a traditional flat-bottom boat, with or without a guide, drifting silently under ash and poplar trees to the gentle rhythm of the water. It’s a deeply soothing experience, perfectly in tune with the spirit of Maison Sonora.
Cycling enthusiasts will also feel right at home here: the local roads are quiet, the landscapes ever-changing, and we’re happy to share our favorite routes to help you explore the area at your own pace.
