We are Luke and Claire, we met in Montreal more than 20 years ago. Back in France we spent our free time renovating old stone houses to give them a new life. Luke is Australian and French and Claire French, Belgian and English. We love sharing our homes and our love of the bay. Luke runs the Café de la Baie in a 2CV Citroën van fitted to offer fresh and hot local and organic drinks.
Saint Léonard is a quaint village in the bay with fantastic views on the Mont Saint Michel. Discover Saint Léna, an original gift shop, the Cara-Meuh farm that produces organic caramels, the little art gallery MLC, the heritage listed priory and the local museum l'Ecomusée de la Baie which has a permanent exhibition on the plants and animals of the bay and the traditional activities of the village which were the manufacture of salt and fishing on foot.
At the Pointe du Grouin admire the fantastic view over the bay and the Mont Saint Michel. This is where Luke your host sets up the Café de la Baie in an old 2cv Citroën van. He serves a wide range of cold and hot drinks, organic and sourced locally, and our delicious homemade cookies!
The famous walks across the bay with a guide leave from this area and this is the best vantage point for watching the tidal wave come in during the highest tides. The salt marshes are home to many species of bird and the famous pre-salted sheep of the Bay of Mont Saint Michel.
There is no shortage of beautiful walks in the area, including the GR223 hiking trail that passes through the village, behind the house.
Excellents restaurants can be enjoyed in Vains and in Genêts, the next village (4 min) which also has a bakery for fresh bread, yummy pastries and home made ice cream, a small convenient store and a post office.
There are more restaurants, bars, cafes, stores, large supermarkets and an organic shop in the town of Avranches (10 min). For recommendations on things to see and do in the area, check out our guidebook (https://www.baiedumontsaintmichel.com/en/home) or don't hesitate to ask us!
