Markus (Bikepacking Scotland)
Relax with the whole family at this peaceful place in Alyth, a gateway to the Scottish Highlands. The small town offers an abundance of cycling and walking routes, with the quiet glens of the Cairngorms National Park to the north, as well as the farmlands of the Valley of Strathmore in the south. Managed by Bikepacking Scotland, Forillion offers plenty of literature to plan your adventures, facilities for cyclists like secure bike storage, a well-equipped kitchen and drying facilities.
Bikepacking Scotland was founded by Markus Stitz, a German-born route designer, filmmaker, photographer and writer, based in Edinburgh. Markus caught the adventure bug while living in Wellington, New Zealand and has explored Scotland extensively since he moved here in 2009. Before cycling 34,000 kilometres unsupported around the world on a single-speed mountain bike he mapped his first bikepacking route, the Capital Trail, awarded best new route in 2015 by bikepacking(dot)com. Shortly after his trip he founded Bikepacking Scotland and has worked in many corners of Scotland, designing bikepacking and gravel routes for Wild About Argyll, Visit East Lothian, the Cateran Ecomuseum, VisitCairngorms and others. Markus is an ultra-endurance racer, with three successful finishes of the Highland Trail 550, along with single finishes of the Silk Road Mountain Race and the Atlas Mountain Race. Markus’s writing has appeared in a wide variety of magazines and online publications including Singletrack, Cycling UK, Cranked and Yellow Jersey. He is the author of Great British Gravel Rides and Bikepacking Scotland, and co-edited Big Rides: Great Britain & Ireland. We can help you planning cycling and walking routes for your stay.
Set in a quiet lane very close to all local amenities. Alyth is a small town on the Highland Boundary Fault, with an abundance of local walking and cycling trails. Alyth can be reached from Perth and Dundee by bus. Please note there are no parking facilities provided at the property, public parking can be found close by for free, but you have to carry your luggage to the house. A bike shed with space for hanging up to 3 bikes is at the end of the lane, very close to the house. Cycling routes to get to the nearest public transport can be provided if requested.
