Fakenham has been voted the seventh best place to live in Britain by Country Life magazine and is renowned for its popular weekly market, when the town comes alive with visitors to browse and purchase a fantastic selection of produce sold by local traders. The town is home to some wonderful attractions. Fakenham Racecourse is one of the finest rural national hunt horse racecourses in the country attracting top rated horses and riders and, a couple of miles down the road, you will find the award-winning Pensthorpe Natural Park, home to Europe's finest collection of endangered and exotic water birds. There are miles of board walks through the reserve to explore, and hides for bird watchers to spot the local wildlife. The town is also home to Sculthorpe Moor Nature Reserve, nationally and internationally recognised as important for the wildlife resides there.
For local dining, The Red Lion offers superb a la carte options. For something more relaxed, The Fat Cow is a great family option, serving grass fed beef and soft serve ice-cream. Just a 6-minute drive, or less than an hour’s walk away is Sculthorpe Mill. This unique dining experience and was voted by the Sunday Times as the best restaurant/ hotel in the East of England 2021. Previously a watermill, and built atop the River Wensum in 1757, it is now a beautiful country pub, set in the heart of the glorious Norfolk countryside.
