Astwell Mill itself, forms part of an old deserted Medieval village which is listed in the Domesday Book. Although the Mill has not been in production since 1929 and the workings, including the wheel, were removed in the 1940’s, there is still plenty of evidence of what it would have been like living and working here in times gone by. The lakes are teeming with freshwater fish and a superb natural habitat for wildlife. Guests often see ducks, swans, moorhens and baldcoots during their stay. The heron, little egret and kingfisher often also make an appearance, whilst early risers may spy a badger, fox or occasionally an otter

Astwell Mill was first mentioned in the Doomsday book and the current building dates, in parts, to the 16th century. Our family have been here since the 1800s and although no longer millers we still farm alongside looking after our guests.
We are located in the lost medieval village of Astwell just below Astwell Castle. A peaceful and unique setting in the heart of open countryside with views over our farm where we rear sheep, goats and the free range eggs for breakfast. Adjacent to the Mill are the two original Millponds which are a haven of wildlife and offer coarse fishing by arrangement. At certain times of the year we love to show our guests the lambs and kids on the farm.
Although an historic building our 2-3 rooms offer the most up to date facilities. Power showers in well equipped bathrooms, luxury bedlinen and towels, bathrobes, hi speed wifi, Nespresso machines and use of a small well equipped guest kitchen if required. In winter there may be an open fire in the inglenook and a dining/lounge area is always available.
Our guests are welcome to enjoy the garden with seats overlooking the stream and a bbq hut for all year round cooking. There are numerous walks and cycle routes locally upon which we are happy to advise.
A range of breakfast options are generally available using our own wonderful fresh eggs, homemade marmalade and everything else grown or sourced as locally as possible. By prior arrangement we can also offer simple 2 course home cooked evening meals.
We live on site and always on hand to deal with our guests queries and explain more of what this beautiful hidden corner of England has to offer.
