Braeside Retreats is a truly unique set of luxury holiday pods in a spectacular setting. With unrivalled views over the Pentland Firth to Dunnet Head, the most northerly point of mainland Britain, and the Orkney Isles, you can relax in the rolling hills of the surrounding grassland. With each pod having its own private hot tub, outdoor dining area and BBQ, you can unwind in the fresh Caithness air and soak up the long light nights or stargaze in the dark.
We are a working, farming family who all live in close proximity to the pods. We will be near by at all times whilst tending to our cows and sheep, and will visit the site every day to check and maintain the hot tubs, and chat to guests. We know how lucky we are to live in such a spot of natural beauty and are delighted to invite visitors to share a slice of our lifestyle with us.
Caithness is a true hidden gem of the North. Although at Braeside Retreats you can enjoy complete peace and quiet, you are still very close to our local amenities; just 2.5 miles from the historic village of Castletown and 4 miles from the bustling Highland town of Thurso which has all the supermarkets, petrol stations, take-away, bars and restaurants you could want. Plus you are only around 4 miles from the spectacular white sands of Dunnet Bay, a breath-taking beach ideal for walking alone or with children or dogs! The near-by Dunnet Bay Distillery is famous for it's delicious "Rock Rose Gin" and runs fantastic distillery tours and tastings. The Castle of Mey is around 15 mins drive from our pods, a beautiful castle with stunning gardens, formally the residence of the late Queen Mother and still visited by Prince Charles every year. The landmark village of John O' Groats is around 25 mins drive away, the most Northerly village on the UK mainland, and Dunnet Head, the most northerly point of the mainland is only around 10 mins drive.
