We had a great stay at Deerness. The location was a very short walk into the town centre. The house was beautiful, very well presented, and we loved sitting out in the sunshine in the morning with a cup of tea. Watching the boats in the harbour....

A Victorian terraced house recently renovated by owners, built in 1860 and suffering war damage in December 1914 you may notice the different coloured bricks to the left of the entrance. The property is part of the railway community and located at the bottom of the hill on the west side of Whitby.. The property is about 20m above sea level and a gentle walk into town for about 2 minutes, not suitable for wheel chair access with steps to the front of the property as seen in pictures and two steps into the back yard, there are stairs to interconnect the ground, first and second floors. We often set arrival dates to Saturday for 7 nights at peak times, especially during July and August. Please contact us if you have a special requirement and we will try to help, early booking advised. 5 bedrooms, two double, a twin and two single rooms, maximum occupancy 8 people. Bedrooms are on first and second floors, and living area on ground floor. Bathrooms with bath and shower on floor one and two. We let the property as one unit for up to eight people, only your group in property no other occupants. It is a self catering venture so kitchen facilities provided. Garden to front of property with seating overlooking estuary and steam railway April to October, yard to rear of property. Lounge with seating for eight and dinning room again with seating for eight.Kitchen has dishwasher, electric oven and hob, fridge freezer, microwave, and washing machine.
Rob and Sue, we renovated the property over three years and now holiday let it, one day hopefully we will move there and enjoy retirement. We fell in love with Whitby over the last twenty years and want to share it with you.
Esk Terrace is part of the railway community in Whitby, built in Victorian times 1860 to 1880. Overlooking the railway and the Risk estuary it is the first row of Victorian houses above the railway, the railway cottages below a more recent addition which were built sympathetically to allow uninterrupted views from Esk Terrace. Esk Terrace a just a few hundred meters from the town centre and railway and bus station, giving you easy access to grossmont Pickering by steam locomotive if you choose between Easter and October half term. Walk up the Esk valley to Ruswarp Sleights or Grossmont and return on the train. Coastal walks out to Sandsend or Robin Hood's Bay. Fish and Chips a must for some, plenty to choose from, along with many other cafes, bistros and restaurants in the town. Further a field you can venture on to the Moors, Danby, Castleton or got to Scarborough or York. Cinema in town at the pavillion and in Scarborough, pavillion has a number of productions on events etc. More theatre 30 minutes away in Scarborough at Stephen Joseph in the round. Whitby has many themed weeks, goth, folk, fish and chips, pirates, soul and other music events the list goes on.
