Around and about
Dydle Down is down river from Potter Heigham which has two pubs, a good variety of cafes and a fish and chip shop, boat hire, a tackle shop and a large, general store which if it doesn’t stock what you want then you probably don’t need it! There is a riverside green with mooring and seats for you to relax and to take in the sights, including boats and yachts negotiating the low, stone medieval bridge!
If you have a boat or yacht then Dydle Down offers access by river to Hickling Broad, the largest open expanse of water on the Broads and largest reedbed in the country. At Hickling you can find the Norfolk Wildlife Trust Hickling Broad Visitor Centre with information and activities, bird hides and wheelchair friendly paths. In the other direction, you are within easy reach by water or road of Womack Water and the villages of Ludham and Thurne.
Dydle Down is on the Weavers Way, a 61-mile, long distance footpath that runs between Cromer on the north east coast down to Great Yarmouth. There are numerous shorter walks to enjoy from the bungalow including a circular walk out towards Heigham Sound through woodland and alongside reed beds with birdlife, wildfowl and even wild Konick ponies to spot along the way.
Two minutes by car is the village of Repps-with-Bastwick with a fuel station, take-away and convenience store.
The beautiful, sandy beaches of Norfolk’s east coast are within easy reach by car and the fine city of Norwich, with its two cathedrals, imposing medieval castle set upon a mound, open air market, two malls and eclectic shops of the Norwich Lanes, is a 30 minute drive.
