Resting in the idyllic Robin Hood’s Bay, Falconhurst is a locally owned and delightful, first-floor, two-storey apartment with a separate entrance, along the North Yorkshire coast. The apartment is located above the owner’s home in a beautiful, Victorian house, with space for six guests and sea views for a homely staycation. Off-road parking welcomes you as you unload your bags and enter through the characterful front door with stained glass windows. Climb the stairs to find the beautifully-appointed kitchen/diner with sleek, dark cabinets, charming décor and a large dining table, perfect to gather around in the evening with a cold glass of wine to toast to your retreat. A light-filled, spacious sitting room awaits on the second-floor with views across to the sparkling sea from the Velux windows; curl up on the plush sofas with a good book or switch your favourite show on the TV. After a day along the coast, the large, contemporary bathroom is a stylish space to wash away the sand, whether that’s a relaxing soak in the tub or a rinse using the handheld shower. Choose from three thoughtfully decorated bedrooms with ample storage space to unpack and make yourself at home; a first-floor king-size has access to the Jack and Jill bathroom, the first-floor double has its own en-suite shower room for extra privacy, and the second-floor double is served by a cloakroom. Guests are given a person guide of the community to help them make the most of their stay, best places to visit and where they can take children and there is a board with local events during your stay Ideal for a week long vacation! Over a third of our guests come back for longer stays!
The Host have lived in Robin Hoods Bay for 25 years and have been active in the community. They and their daughter Laura who manages the Let for them know a lot about the village and surrounding area and are keen to make guests feel part of their community through a person guide they have written and are available to help with directions and advice. Ann is a retired Housing Manager ( Leeds and Yorkshire Housing Association) and is responsible for the design and layout of the house, which gets positive comments from all our guests. Cliff has been in Social Enterprise for over 30 years and Manages Social Enterprise International working from home but covering over 40 countries. He helped set up the Bay Broadband Cooperative which supplies the village with its Internet signal and is involved in Whitby Shared Wealth Social Enterprise Ltd concerned about the sustainability of the area and working with students from the local school setting up their own social enterprises.
There is plenty to do here both in the village and surrounding areas. The historic village is full of secrets of smuggling times and the days when there were 200 families fishing the seas. Many visitors miss out on much of this but not if you stay at Falconhurst where the local knowledge of the hosts help you make the most of the visit. Find the old square, the Wesley house and chapel. For a special treat book a smuggler's tour with the talented Brian Allanson and his very local knowledge of the village and its darker history This a is great place for those who like walking and you will be given information about the best places to walk, either along the coasts tracks, the cinder track or through the woods. For children of all ages this is the best place, a beach full of adventure, fossils, amber and jet hunts, and nearby places all tested by the Hosts and personal recommendations from Laura who has two small children herself. For music lovers there is live music next door at the Grosvenor, down in the Bay at Tea Toast and Post and an active folk club with the famous Robin Hoods Bay Folk weekend every years. We also have three weeks of extra fun, two Goth weekends when vampires from all over the world descend on the place where Bram Stoker wrote Dracula and our famous Victorian weekend when locals and visitors dress up and relive the days 150 years ago Whitby is a historic town, famous for the Abbey where in 664 the Synod changed England forever and its ruins inspired Bram Stoker. Also Whitby was the town of tall ships including Captain James Cook's Discovery. And of course both in Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby you can eat our famous fish and chips. Christmas is a great time with candle lit Carol singing in the Dock and a fantastic atmosphere in our six Inns and in the narrow streets. But throughout the year you will find a North Yorkshire welcome from the Hosts and all their friends and neighbours
