Fletchers Combe has been a cherished family legacy for three generations. Today, Sarah, assisted by her partner James—who is also the son of the farm's owner—oversees the management of Fletchers Combe's holiday properties and its sprawling 90-acre cattle farm. In 2019, seeking respite from urban hustle, Sarah and James relocated to Devon to begin their next chapter in the serene and picturesque South Devonshire countryside.
Fletchers Combe is owned by Dr. Roger Mugford, leading animal psychologist and a pioneer in behavioural therapy. His career has led to him to speak on behalf of animal welfare across the world through to training the Queen's corgis.
In 1979 he founded The Animal Behaviour Centre in Surrey, a referral service for veterinary surgeons and their clients with problem pets. That same year, he founded The Company of Animals brand where he invented and developed a range of products that have revolutionized the way people train their pets. The HALTI® head collar and Pet Corrector® auditory training tool are among his exemplary products frequently copied by competitors but unmatched in quality or effectiveness.
Dr. Mugford is also a Dogs for the Disabled patron, Cancer & Bio-detection Dogs Trustee and 2005’s Blue Cross Welfare Award recipient.
Nestled in a serene Devon valley, Fletchers Combe offers a perfect escape in the heart of Devon, strategically positioned between the Moors and the Coast. The charming towns of Dartmouth, Kingsbridge, Torquay, Paignton, Brixham, Salcombe, and the vibrant city of Plymouth are all within a 30-minute drive. Exeter is a 40-minute drive. Totnes, known for its unique independent shops, lively bars, and inviting cafes, is just 5 miles away.
The neighboring villages of Harbertonford and Harberton boast a thriving community presence, featuring a community-owned shop, post office, garage, and the welcoming Church House Inn Pub & Restaurant. The area is also home to the Nkuku lifestyle store & cafe and Dayne's Farm Shop, Butchers & Cafe, providing ample local flavor and charm.
The local area is rich with activities, from adventure parks and water sports to golf courses and historical sites, including stately homes, castles, and gardens. For those interested in leisurely pursuits, there are steam trains, boat trips, and relaxing spas.
