Spacious open plan studio, centrally located, being a few seconds walk from the heart of Hay, Half Moon House is one of the oldest and most characterful houses in town. It has parking, essential, and alittle terrace for a BBQ and sun trap for reading.
It is our family home that we are happy to share with you, and hope you enjoy its particular charm, character and rustic authentic welsh/english style. The ground floor studio apartment has its own entrance, onto an open plan kitchen, sitting room and bedroom. We feel it maintains the feeling of old happy days when it was a pub . The house has the best of tradition; wood burner, lime plastered walls, English Antiques, Welsh blankets, old beams, aswell as the modern amenities you may need, a modern shower room ,central heating, washing machine, WIFI. The bed is against the wall so accessed from one side. Your private bathroom is not ensuite but across a corridor . The front terrace is a beautiful mix of lavender, herbs and an infamous hysteria that cascades down. Perfect location for countryside walks, bookshop browsing and canoeing. Private parking by the front door. All our lbed linen is clean and fresh but not ironed, to save costs and make sure these aren't passed onto you.
I hope you'd find me a very open minded, well travelled, friendly soul, with a good sense of humour on life. Infact I just love life, and love people even more, which is why I studied as a post grad in visual anthropology. I feel very lucky to have filmed and travelled for the BBC around the world for 18 years, meeting people far and wide. I hope my home, offered to you, reflects my creative, authentic taste, in this case of welsh/english culture (we live on the border of both) aswell as parts being wall papered in books- well we are a world famous book town! I also hope it reflects my relationships with my community (there are some fun welsh ancestral portaits and gilded frames of the English on the walls) as well as a welcome DVD that tells the story of this fabulously unique town that I filmed over a year and introduces you to characters you'll bump into in the street. Sure to enhance your experience of Hay!
Before Hay I worked as a human rights film director for the BBC and won many international awards but Hay is my solice and retreat and I hope it can be for you too- time to be inspired, and pause at the same time, with a book in hand infront of the fire.
We are in the heart of town, next to wonderful independent shops, cafes, bars, pubs, an art cinema, and of course the towns famous 39 bookshops! We are on the Wye river, great for fishing and canoeing. We have a wonderful selection of circular walks from town, and dazzling mountains on our doorstep for walking, horse riding, and biking. Everyone knows everyone, so it is a friendly, safe, characterful town where you'll feel you belong almost immediately and always leave wanting to return.
