High Kelling has its own post office and shop (located on the Cromer Road), and is in the ideal location to utilise the many independent amenities of Holt, less than two miles away. Holt, a very popular North Norfolk town, is bursting with Georgian charm. It is a shopper's paradise, with art and antique galleries, independent fashion boutiques and gift shops, grocery stores which the best of local produce and a good selection of cafes, pubs, and restaurants. Be sure to try the Owl Tea Rooms. Holt has its own 100-acre Country Park and Kelling Heath, with pretty woodland trails close by. Plus, of course, there are miles and miles of the North Norfolk coastal path to explore too! On the outskirts of Holt is Holt Railway Station, from where you can catch the Poppy Line steam train and take a ride to Weybourne and Sheringham - great fun for everyone!
The coast is easily accessed by car and the National Trust properties at Sheringham Park (famed for its stunning rhododendron display each Spring), Felbrigg Hall and Blicking Hall are just a short hop way in the car.
Cley-next-the-Sea, a short drive north from Holt, is a pretty village with a landmark windmill, art galleries, a fabulous deli and tea rooms. On the outskirts of the village is the Norfolk Wildlife Trust visitor centre and Cley Marshes where you can sit in the café and enjoy panoramic views across the marshes, or birdwatch to your heart's content.
Just ten miles away is the family-orientated, traditional seaside town of Cromer with its award-winning pier, beautiful Blue Flag beach and great independent places to eat out. Cromer is Norfolk's surfing hot spot, so if you fancy learning, lessons and equipment hire can be booked at Glide Surf School. For a lively family day out, Amazona Zoo is a must.
