Company information

Before making the move to Cornwall in July 2016, I worked as a Primary School Teacher and my husband worked in facilities management for an insurance comapny. We now run Higher Trewithen Holiday Cottages. Simon and I live on site on The Farmhouse with our 2 daughters, Ella and Hannah, and our toddler, Tristan. We have 3 dogs, a cat, a parrot and a canary. My family and I spend most of our time runnig the holiday cottages or looking after the many animals we have at Higher Trewithen, which include rare breed sheep, turkeys, chickens and geese. When we're not running the business we like to walk our three dogs, visit local attractions or spend time at the beach. As a family we take enjoy a wide range of activities. I enjoy long distance running, cooking, reading, gardening and a range of arts and crafts. My husband enjoys fishing, shooting, surfing and cycling.

Property information

Higher Trewithen is over 300 years old and was once a working farm. The Farmhouse and the various outbuildings were converted into 7 holiday cottages and apartments in 1972. Most of our cottages are situated round a grassed courtyard making Higher Trewithen a great place for group bookings, as you can each book a cottage but still be within close proximity to the rest of your party. Our smallest properties can sleep 2 people while our largest property can comfortably accommodate 8 people, many are dog friendly. All of our properties are individually decorated and fully equipped for your self-catering holiday, including the all important free WiFi. We have a separate laundry room on site with two washing machines and two tumble dryers all of which are coin operated and accept 50p coins only. Bedding, electric, heating, water and towels are included within the price of your stay. We have a large gravel driveway that can accommodate 15 cars and is free to use. Games and sun loungers are free of charge and can be found in the Laundry Room, we just ask that people return them once they are finsished with them. In the Laundry Room you will also find a large selection of books.

Neighbourhood information

Higher Trewithen is a rural property set on Trewithen Moor and has around 4 acres of gardens and grounds that visitors are welcome to explore. Our sheep occupy one of our feilds while the geese and turkeys reside in the Cornish apple orchard that runs aloneside our large gravel driveway. Our chickens Doris, Rosie and Daisy are free range and tend to wander around our back garden most of the time but do like to make an apprearnce out front from time to time. Higher Trewithen is situated about a mile from the village of Stithians which has a fantastic pub, a small shop, community centre and a gorgeous medieval church. There is a Costcutter just up the road, off Tubbon Hill, that is open daily from around 7am to 9pm and a Spar in the village. Major supermarkets are close by and many will deliver to Higher Trewithen. Stithians Lake is around 2 miles away and offers a range of watersports including kayaking, windsurfing and sailing tuition for adults and children. There's a fantastic pub, The Golden Lion, nearby with a fabulous garden and views of the lake and a cafe in the watersports centre. Horse riding is also available locally at Wheal Buller Riding School.
