Hi and welcome to Hillside! It's is a spaceous, newly refurbished three bedroom detached dormer bungalow with a good sized private garden and parking space for two standard sized cars. Most of the house has newly sanded wooden flooring, creating a warm and relaxed mood. Downstairs you will find a bedroom with a king sized bed and sink unit. There is a seperate downstairs bathroom with level access shower, plus an additional cloakroom. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms. As yet, there is no upstairs bathroom but I have plans to change this in the future. Because there is a downstairs bedroom and bathroom, Hillside is accessible for two guests with reduced mobility, though there are no mobility aids in place.
Hillside can theoretically house six, however, I would suggest five is probably a more comfortable amount for a group of adults. Children and well behaved pets are by prior arrangement and as long as parents/owners are happy to take responsibility for their safety and bring their own equipment as the house is not specifically set up for their needs.
At the back of the house is a field with which previously housed an Anglo Saxon castle. Hillside is thought to have been built on land that had fish ponds, which served the castle. Today, you are more likely to find sheep in there.
Booking: Please be aware that if you request a booking, you will need to complete the process within 24 hours after being accepted in order to secure the accommodation. Also, only foreign nationals will need to provide proof of ID. This does not apply to UK residents.
Hello! My name is Helen and I am the owner of Hillside. Historically, my mother's family moved to the village of Ewyas Harold in the 1930's so I have known the area all my life. My aunt taught at the local school and bought Hillside in 1980 . She has now it passed it on to me, and I am truly grateful for this. My partner and I have enjoyed the process of putting our own stamp on the property, and we love spending time there. I like art, nature and a relaxed boho style, which is the look I have aimed for.
The property has been a labour of love and I take my holiday let business seriously. I want my guests to be able to relax and enjoy their stay. I am pleased and excited to say that I am planning to add more features in the future!
I no longer live locally, but am contactable and approachable, and will do what I can to accommodate your needs. I have family nearby, who are helping me to keep the house in order and run the business.
Ewyas Harold village is in the beautiful Golden Valley in Herefordshire. It sits on the Welsh border between the beautiful cathedral city of Hereford and the lovely market town of Abergavenny.
The village has expanded over the years, and boasts two pubs, The Dog and The Temple, a local shop and Post Office. There is also a long estabilshed butchers and an award winning chip shop! Further, you will have the picturesque St Michael's church, playing fields and a common to explore. Occasionally, you will see the local lamas being taken for a walk!
There are numerous other country pubs serving food within driving distance. For keen shoppers, the maket towns of Monmouth, Abergavenny and Ross on Wye are near, as is Hereford city. Walkers can easily access the Skirrid and Sugar Loaf mountains, and stop off for a break at the Skirrid Inn (very haunted, apparently!). A little further afield are the Brecon Beacons, Offas Dyke and the wonderful Wye Valley.
Please note that, whilst a good time can be had at one of the pubs, the neighbours are peaceful people, and this is not a party destination, it is very much aimed at relaxation.
Ewyas Harold is surrounded by countryside, and is a farming area, so there will be some associated farming activity and creepy crawlies that are beyond my control!!
