Hotspur House is a lovely 1806 Georgian home which has a much older feel, as it was built to a design drawn up in the early 1700’s. The Sitting Room is located on the ground floor at the front of Hotspur House, it overlooks the town square through its three windows. The room focuses on a traditional Georgian swan or duck nest fireplace, the fire is lit during the winter and on cooler days throughout the year. This is an ideal place to sit with afternoon tea, homemade scones and jam or just curl up in a chair with a good book and relax. We have a supply of local maps and guidebooks, acres of reading material and a variety of board games and jigsaw puzzles, all available for guest use. The Dining Room overlooks the back garden through the Victorian bay window. It is a lovely sunny room furnished with Georgian antiques. We offer three bedrooms, each one individually decorated and furnished. Oak and beach furniture, rich velvet fabrics and luxury bedding and towels, goose down and feather pillows and quilts, all add to the ambiance of the rooms. The double rooms, with king sized beds, and twin room each has an ensuite bathroom; with baths and showers available
We have moved to Allendale from Low Hall B&B, Little Strickland, we enjoyed running the B&B so much that we are starting a new venture here. We enjoy taking the dogs on one of the many beautiful walks in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The name Allendale is thought to derive from the Saxon word for white, or shining, water and refers to the River Allen, for which the valley is named. There are archaeological sites dating from prehistoric times through to the 20th century. The industrial past of this area being clearly stamped on it, even today. Today the village of Allendale offers many local amenities including cafes, pubs, playpark, art gallery and beautician. As well as a well-stocked supermarket, butcher, doctors’ surgery and pharmacy. Hotspur House is ideally located, whether it be for cycling, the Coast to Coast route runs close by, relaxing by a blazing fire or walking and exploring the local fells and moors and the amazing history of Hadrian’s Wall and related Roman sites. There are various events throughout the year including the September Allen Valleys Folk Festival, established in 2014, and the world famous New Year’s Eve Tar Barrels, establish circa 170 years ago. The nearby historic towns of Hexham and Corbridge provide a wider selection of amenities with an array of culture, a good range of local shops and restaurants, professional and recreational services and a hospital.
